iguanaman2442 0
Well this saturday just gone was the weekend we had arranged for some lads to come down and ferret our permission with us. So at 7.20 am i picked Andy my ferreting partner and his brother in law Nat up and made our way down to our 100 acre permission. We waited till 8am and then i got the phone call to go meet the lads down the road walked down to car park and met up with Reece, Dan and Neil with the terrier and lurcher. Got back to our permission met with Andy and Nat did all the introduction thing and the lads thanked us for the invite. We started the day off by walking the lads round to show them our boundries and take a look at some more land Andy had sorted us the night before. Any way we got together all our equiptment and made our way to some of the worst areas. Arrived at a hedge row with to many holes to count (i cant belive the land aint collapsed). So we netted up stuck 3 ferrets down they all worked well and we took 4 from what i remember with both dogs marking well. Reece got some pics i think (get them uploaded on here if your reading this mate). SO we moved onto the next set of holes again to many to count we set up nice and quietly and entered the ferrets. Bolted 4 i think. We lost 2 of them the little buggers wont run into the field for the dog. They were bolting out of holes that were completly covered with thick tufts of grass and unseeable. They were running down the inside of the hedges. These hedges are really bad full of brambles, nettles and thorn bushes and a ditch full of water 1 side. Dont think anybody got out of there with out at least 2 thorns in thier hands LOL. We did about another 6 that day and only took 11 i think we lost around the same could have done with more terriers but thats just the way it goes sometimes but its not always about numbers is it!!!!!!!. We had a good laugh and over all a good day considering it was the first time we had met Reece, Dan and Neil. So back to the cars we went and setup the tents got some tea fed and watered the ferrets and gave dogs a little something and water oh yeah and a well deserved rest. We waited till it got dark and took the lurcher out for a bit of lampingwas a really still night really quiet and no wind but thought we would give it a go. She had a few good runs but rabbits knew exactly where they were going........ straight back home bitch took 1 but cut her foot so we called it a night. We were tucked up in our tents by 11.30 but had had a good day so wernt to bothered. Got up and met Andy and Nat at 7am and headed off to the woods with no dogs as wood leads onto main road and not worth the risk to dogs. We netted up with over 200 nets but didnt have enough nets to net all holes so we thought try it they might bolt get netted or get back netted............ Well we were all fu***d off when we lost 8 out of there but it happens (time to invest in more nets me thinks). Took about 5 out of there in the end i think if i remember correctl. So we decided to pull ferrets out collect up nets and move on to more hedge rows and get the dogs from the by the cars. Got to the chosen hedge row. Now this was a right fu***r thick brambles and thorns every where. Any way we netted up about 6 different sets of burrows all down the hedge row and set the long nets where the rabbits were likely to run. We started on the first but nothing at home so we moved on along the hedge and took six out of this hedge the dog had a couple of long distance runs but the little buggers dodged the long nets and straight through the fence. Did 1 more and took a few out of this 1. Ended the weekend with around 25 lads will correct me if im wrong but we must have lost the same due to hidden bolt holes and dogs can only work 1 rabbit at a time. All in all we had a good weekend we all enjoyed it and as it was the first time we had met did ok i think. Me and Andy would like to thank Reece, Dan and Neil the only lads that stuck it all weekend with me, Andy and Nat. Had a few lads not turn up even though they had confirmed on the Thursday and a few that turnd up but just left with out even saying anything. After an invite from somebody they didnt even know you would think that people would show some manners and common curtusy. At least they could have said sorry lads we are goin thanks for the invite. Will definetly sort another meet up with the lads that stuck out the weekend and worked hard with us. Again thanks lads Iguanaman and Taff70 Quote Link to post

Taff70 0
I'd like to add my 2 pennies worth to what was in my mind a great weekend. There were a lot of positives & a few negatives. I must admit though, ive never met a better bunch of lads than the boys from Telford. These 3 lads & the dogs were the nicest lads ive ever had the pleasure to meeting. I must say sorry for not getting a massive bag but Rob refused to chase the bunnies ( lazy git!). It also showed me that me & rob do ferreting one way & the Telford lads another, but together both methods works. I'm glad to see we all new how to set purse nets correctly , . That's a story we will keep our selves as it's not my way to embarress folks. My way of ferreting is if the hedge is thick to put a long net around but thanks to the Telford lads they got stuck in & saved us a lot of bunnies hoping from hole to hole. I think my new nick name for them will be "me little terrer pack" Well done lads! In the woods was a pain in the bum as 1 of the Telford lads will know, i saw him run for a rabbit & fell over a branch & on top of that he even let the rabbit run away!!!!!! Bet the rabbit is telling all the 8 or so that got away in the woods how funny it was to see. I've decided to try a new (well, new to me) thing regarding purse nets lads. All my nets will be bundled together using thick elastic bands in bundles of say 10. Once ive used a pack of 10 the band will be over my wrist. I will count them back in onto the bands. If there's any bands left on my wrist i know i'm missing nets. I'll bring my dog out also next time folks. Me & Rob would like to invite the Telford lads back again soon if they would like to come. All the best lads untill the next time we meet Andy Quote Link to post
