Recommended Posts

ive got 2 patts and 2 young kids.they all adore each other.would trust the dogs with my life.when out workin them we all go together so dogs and kids no the crack.where do all the stories of patts being nutters come from.all the bullshitters with patts that can kill grizzly bears on their own,but only when no one else is around.cheers mouse

somone i know keeps jack rustles but he thought had have a change and get 2 patterdale pups but one managed to kill the other. im sure this was just a one of but the one he has left is working with the hunt and hes spot on!, i have always liked patterdales and on the rare occasions I’ve been able to see them work they look brilliant.

thanks guys but I’ve changed my mind again because i know a patterdale is what i will be happiest with. Just got to hope it doesn’t eat my house or kill the whippets (like to see it catch them)

I have to agree mate i have 2 young children 1 of 5 and the other of 8. My patterdale also lives in the house and has done since 10 weeks old. He is now over 11 months old and a total physco outside in the country. He will try and attack anything, nothing is to much to take on, but in the house with the kids hes brilliant, the kids pull him, ride him, fight him, and role him on his back and pull him around the carpet. He has never once growled or showed his teeth. I think they are what you make them mate. Patterdales in my eyes are very intelligent and great house dogs. Mine would not let anyone in my house without loosing their legs, but once i say "Zin they are ok", he chills out and they become instant friends with him too. I would get a Pat again any day. Like ive already said though, you need to be tough with them from the beginning or they will dominate you.

any breed will do or any x between the working breeds. the main thing is to look at the parents and ask the breeder/owner about there tempriment. tell them that the pup will be around young children. if in doupt dont take a pup :good:

the main thing to remember is if you buy a well mannered pup its your job to keep it that way :D

oh and i agree that the patt is not better or worse than other breeds in relation to temprement. the line of russell i keep are not as steady with kids. as some patts i know.

good luck whatever you get :D

Bit late, but mine is in the house and shes fine, detests cats and the "family" (spoilt stupid and lazy) jack russle, but with anything and anyone else shes brilliant.

i dont agree that you can class a certain breed as nuts as there is good and bad i all my lakey/pat has never bit a kid but you can see he dosnt like them just walks away to his bed when youngsters are around . smart looking lakey mike
