Slow cooker, what a dam good invention

Recommended Posts

Got back from ferreting and had 6 for myself, Gave two away within ten seconds of being dropped off, to a lad from work.

So minced three up for the pup and thought sod it will have one for myself.

Well at lunch today ,i thought i would try out the new slow cooker so i chopped up three potatoes a couple of carrots some brocoli and half a onion, added a vegetable stock and wacked it on high setting so when i got home from work it was ready.

And bloody hell it was good. even the wife had some. bit to much salt though from the stock and from soaking it over night in salt water so next time its no stock till the end.

Was impressed and gona make it a weekly treat for myself.

yum yum from a full tum

I have never had a slow cooker but I love my pressure cooker.

Just had a lamb hotpot/stew. It consisted of breast of lamb, parsnips, carrots, onions, garlic, pearl barley, tomato puree, potatoes. Took about 30 mins in pressure cooker yesterday and just had it today after coming back from shooting.

I always leave it a day as I think it tastes better next day.

Full as a pig now :icon_redface: but happy.

Next best invention to the slow cooker??? the Auto function on a slow cooker!!! automatically drops to low heat after a set period!!! Wouldn't be without it!

Harrycatcat, thats the trouble with pressure cookers, it force the stock into the food but not much of the flavour has time to escape!

We prepare everything the night before and dump it all in the removable pot in the fridge. Just before going to work, take it out, put it on auto and come back to the best dinners ever! from stock, stew, soups, chilli to hotdogs they all work!

Well worth the money! (and you can pick them up quite cheap now)

Welcome to the Dark side Harry! you won't regret it!

I'd also recommend buying a specific recipe book for your Slow cooker, their well worth it.

You'll be amazed at what you can cook in it! if not, give it a month or two and you'll be fed up of stews and it'll be put in the cupboard out of the way (it's what we did till we found the cook book.)

I'm so impressed with ours, I've bought a second, smaller slow cooker. It's the perfect size for doing soups etc. Just throw all your veg and stock in the cooker beofre leaving for work, then when you come home, just beat the veg with a fork for a lumpy soup or use a food blender (we use a hand held type) for the 'no bits' varieties!

Just stir in some single cream before you serve it to thicken things up :good:

All the best

Luke
