tote 856
if its in the first heat rounds then hopefully the place can be taken up by a runner in reserve if its in a second round match then i think that the person who dropped out should be replaced with the runner that the had beat in the first round. if you have 2 people drop out resulting in a match from 2 others that would of had a by you will end up with odd numbers. W.h I agree and disagree with you WH, if a runner drops out in the first round I agree a reserve could be brought in. I don't agree that someone who has already been beat gets back in if the person who beat them can't run, if you are beat then you're out end of. As for the last point, you've lost me completly, If it's run down the card it won't make any difference who drops out or how many, it'll just mean more byes. Far better to try and keep it simple then everyone will know where they stand. Quote Link to post
doris 6
Think a 'By' should be a 'By' its the luck the draw if the person your running cant make it, should keep things nice and simple too. I concur. a bye is a bye and always will be. the draw cannot change because of it. If in doubt run a poll with the options . . . . . . . . . . a democratic society rules! Quote Link to post
Guest world.hunters
runner 1 vs runner 2 runner 3 vs runner 4 runner 5 vs runner 6 runner 7 vs runner 8 say if 1 and 3 dropped it would result in runner 2 vs runner 4 runner 5 vs runner 6 runner 7 vs runner 8 this would result in 3 people in the next heat hope this helps. W.h editied to say that this was just explaining to tote what i ment on my first post about not being able to have 2 people drop out resulting in a match from 2 others that would of had a by you will end up with odd numbers. W.h Except you can't have THREE people , (or dogs), in the next heat !! On a straight, ladder system knockout, IE 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1; ypu cannot have people, (or dogs), taking the place of non-runners, apart from the 1st round, and then only if it is written in the rules !! If my 1st round is against a certain dog, then it pulls out , and a different dog is put up to race me, and if it is not written in the rules, why the hell should I race it ??? Once the draw has been done, that should be it !! I know LDR will discuss all rules well before the next comp, and it will be run fair and square, just like this one; but there will still be aresholes moaning !! Cheers. Quote Link to post

Equal runs mean a lot in Coursing, but mean NOTHING in Lamping Competitions !! Me(and LDR), run our dogs on a regular basis over the season, I ran my dog 2 days before my 1st and 2nd heat, as did LDR Do you realy think any of us only run our dogs in the heats of this comp ?? I was out twice last week lamping with LDR, do you think Paul, (Lamp+Battery) is only keeping his bitch back for his semi final against LDR ?? The way you come over, the dogs in the comp would only run once a month !! Cheers. Edited February 25, 2009 by chartpolski Quote Link to post

W.h Surley this is how it would work if runners 1 and 3 dropped out,-runners 2 and 4 would get a bye leaving 4 dogs in the next round. I don't see why runners 2 and 4 would run each other in the first round when they're not scheduled to meet untill round 2. ....ROUND 1..................................ROUND 2 Bye vs runner 2..................runner 2 ..................................................V Bye vs runner 4...................runner 4 runner 5 vs runner 6..............5 or 6 ....................................................V runner 7 vs runner 8...............7 OR 8 Can it be any easier? Leeview 791
Right then as you will know there was a few problems with the 'BY' thing this year, we've got a few ideas of how to get round this, but what are peoples thoughts on solutions for it??? Lets try and keep it constructive too guys............ [/quote chartpolski this is the start of the topic asking for "peoples thoughts on solutions for it" so I feel justified in replying if thats ok with you? Where do I mention not running dogs in between rounds? In coursing reserve dogs are listed for the stake(s) a reserve dog takes its place in the stake if a dog pulls out between draw and start of the stake, once a stake has started no other reserve is called in, others have said a bye is a bye, fair enough but what would happen then if a bye gets a bye next round? the dog is through to the semi's without catching a rabbit OH and what a thought unlikely as it may seem but if it got another bye it would be in the final without catching a rabbit could nt it? The solution under coursing rules no dog is allowed successive bye's to proceed, the dog directly below it on the card is promoted up leaving a bye below 2 2 bye 6 6 bye 8 8 Y.I.S Leeview Edited February 25, 2009 by Leeview Quote Link to post

Alaunt 4
Right then as you will know there was a few problems with the 'BY' thing this year, we've got a few ideas of how to get round this, but what are peoples thoughts on solutions for it??? Lets try and keep it constructive too guys............ we have a lamping comp within the local lurcher club that i'm a member of and when it comes to somebody pulling out the other person gets the by BUT the person going through still has to go out and run at least 5 rabbits with somebody to witness it, the reason behind this is that the person going through has'nt gone through without running because if he had'nt of ran he would'nt of taken the chance of his dog getting injured, so he would'nt have been able to run in the next round anyway i hope this makes sence atb tony Who last won the comp Quote Link to post
