chimp 299
keep the bye , you will have more runners next time and you dont need more of a headache Quote Link to post
LDR 29
The draw is gonna be done differently next time, in 2 halves of the country, it'll all come out the hat and onto a table, that will then be followed down the card with no exceptions, not that we wanted to do a northern v southern thing, but it keeps people somewhere near close ish to start without having to hand pick peoples names together!!!!! thurso jack 3
imo a reasonable amount of time should be given for a re-run or alternative date, set by the competition organiser not the competitors, say a week from the first date and if then either of the contestants cannot make it the other goes through on a "by" no if no buts, at the end of the day where at all possible the heat should be run so to find the best dog, but imo there should never be an event of twice the competitors not making the date as they then have to question whether they really want to run in the contest? Leeview 791
I think the "bye" should stay; it happens in all types of competition, including Coursing. If you opponent can't run, you get a bye, simple !! I think the draw and the timing of the rounds should be tightened up; drawn out the hat and strict limits on when a round can be run. I think this comp has been run well, even if it has gone a bit over schedule, considering it is the 1st one, and a minority of people have tried to spoil it !! Looking forward to the 2nd semi and the final !Cheers. Chartpolski+LDR I seem to recall bringing these points up regarding running this comp before in Coursing a BYE is awarded when one dog is withdrawn for whatever reason, the BYE dog still has to run but cant be beaten in the BYE, So in your comp if a BYE arises let a previously beaten dog have another night out (although it cant win) collie greys idea, once again going back to Coursing if 2 BYE's occur the dogs can run each other BUT both go through to the next round and saves messing up future rounds Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

I would guess that the entrants do pleanty of lamping anyway, without having to travel for a pointless run. Cheers. Quote Link to post
Guest miller1989
If there is another lamping comp next season there should be set rules like this so the bye is not needed! 1.an even number of contestants 2.all the heats throughout must be run on the same night! IE 16 people enter 8 heats to be ran on same night then quaters, then semi, then final a 2 week interval between running nights for injuries,if the dog isnt fit to run then,a good sportsman could sort something i suppose, between the two contestants involved if nothing can be sorted both disqualified regardless. 3.Must have own transport! 4.all dogs must be stock broken and stock checked befor there aloud into the comp! 5. all cotestants must sign the rules before compo begins a get on with it and when the hurdles come there easy jumped! 6.draw all contestants names from a hat for each heat who runs against who etc etc etc I can think of anything else but the bye is making life difficult as does public transport so on! When someone in a heat cant run the other person gets a 'BY' through to the next round without having to run it...... Why change it....just giving yourself more headaches....keep it simple people know the script if you cant compete for whatever reason and an alternative cant be sorted out its a bye into next round....thats what happens in any competition....you cant please everyone mate...keep it simple! i agree, complications you dont need.thats a first lol. The BYE dog doesnt have to travel though does it? it can run on its home ground subject to an independant judge witnessing it to see fairplay tiny7 makes a valid point worth noting but they might not want to travel to run a bye or if a dog is withdrawn for whatever reason the last dog it beat replaces it? I think this is sensible . I would like to congratulate all concerned with the running of the competition,it has been a success so far ,and run in good sportsmanship. The only flies in the ointment have been the fulltime shit stirrers and whingers ,who havent even been in the competition ,we all know who they are and should treat them accordingly. All the best to those left in . Leeview 791
north/south divide is ok if you can get the entrants, take out the northeast lads from this years comp and you'd of been struggling Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
LDR 29
We were toying with the idea of the last competitor, the person pulling out beat, re entering but it was felt on this comp that once you were out you were out...........another idea is to let the first person in the reserve list coming in and taking up the heat, but we're not sure how this would work later on in the comp if it happens in say the semis, how it would work and entry money and the like.............these are all still ideas at the minute and we may not change the 'BY' rule yet......... Tiny 7 1,694
LDR thats what i would do mate a ''BY'' is a ''BY'' mate.. People now know about the ''BY'' thing is now... Atb T 7 Quote Link to post
minion 29
For next years comp are this years entrants being given first refusal on the entry? Hopefully there will be more names to give 32 or 64 but I think this years 16 should be given the chance to enter first. Quote Link to post
