Keep the beam to the floor, keep calling when the fox gets in Arc of the light [ just out side the beam] you will see it and your dog will, slip the dog. With all foxes , once you have found them in the beam, from then on keep the light of the fox. Not saying you will get every one, but it is very Effective.

Try a different coloured filter, i just bought a green filter it works alot better than the red in my area because the foxes have recognised the red filter an become lamp shy. I'll put money on it that every fox in my area has been run by a lurcher a few times so theyre pretty wise, if its the same where you are the only way u'll catch them is if you get a lucky slip

funny you should mention that... if i remember correctly there was a thread on here about the use of filters and the conclusion at the end of the thread was that foxes are colour blind and really only see movement so the use of a filter is only to dim down the light and the colour of the filter doesnt matter??? i have red and green filters and to be honest they both give the same results... i think its just a poor mans dimmer switch ... even with an uneducated fox i think the high powered beam blazin in they're eyes gives them a startle??

 

 

 

if i get a lamp shy fox that doesnt want to come away from the hedge i like to run the knife down the belly of a rabbit, if i can, and leave it in slipping range... you could be waiting quite a while tho

The last couple of foxes i have killed on the night iv actually just got down wind from them and crept along the hedge rowe,im calming down abit on the fox lamping at the moment and just bushing them up

Talking pre ban obviously - What would you do with late season educated foxes? Say for example you can see them and there out of slipping range either because there on the brow of a hill and as soon as the dogs off so will charlie out the beam or just the ground Is too much for the dog to make up before the fox reaches cover. You've tried all the calls you have and still the fox Isn't moving anywhere but Isn't going away from the sqeek, Just stopped sitting/standing In that spot. So what do you do then? Driving the fields and getting the dog out of the window Isn't an option before anyone suggests that

a lamp shy fox is just that lamp shy, your not going to get it unless your lucky and land on a fluke, there far to edgucated and wise at this time off year, if there not coming in go try find another.

spot the fox lamp off squeak if hes not comming lamp off and keep squeaking even lamp shy foxes and squeaked foxes will come in on the right call,the dog usually senses when somethings getting to close and you should always be going against the wind therefore smelling you should be a nono,if the dog flinches have a shine he wont be far off you! Or like its been said a lamp shy fox slit your bunny and leave guts lying step 30yds back squeak away he will come in eventually!

there is plenty of food about for them this time of year and foxes are not stupid to use your dog this time of year you need a vixen calling tape and you will have all the horny dog foxes running at you other wise wait till september when the cubs are big and fluffy

i got that call of digit on here and every time i av used it thay come runing in was out the other night and i calld 4 in in the same fieldits a realy good call evan on the lamp shy ones try it mate

that one fella is right on the button ive had a lot of lamp shy pre ban foxes and deer by turning lamp off and slipping the dog, depends on the experience of the dog

Cheers lads. Baiting up wasn't an option either as this was different land that I've never been on before..... I think your right harddigging but when you've been driving for a good while and only seen the one you want to try make the most of It. My mate had that call on his phone the time when you could run the dogs on fox and they weren't having that call either. I think the vixen call may of been worth a go and have heard the slipping with the lamp off tactic working well before too. Don't usually carry rabbits when driving around so that's out too so only other option Is creaping up. Suppose It depends on the lie of the land then on what to try then really.

If you catch a fox from somewhere else[fresh kill] ,Put the fox in the field were ever and he and others will smell its scent and come and mooch for it,Let me no how you get on !!!!
