What to do....

Recommended Posts

Talking pre ban obviously - What would you do with late season educated foxes? Say for example you can see them and there out of slipping range either because there on the brow of a hill and as soon as the dogs off so will charlie out the beam or just the ground Is too much for the dog to make up before the fox reaches cover. You've tried all the calls you have and still the fox Isn't moving anywhere but Isn't going away from the sqeek, Just stopped sitting/standing In that spot. So what do you do then? Driving the fields and getting the dog out of the window Isn't an option before anyone suggests that ;)

Cheers,

when you got a skulker iv seen mates sight the dog

turn off the beam, when beam goes back on dog gets up close enuff for a run

bet theres others on here who done a lot a foxes(preban)

an used the same technique......

like i said earlier,

i dont run foxes wae my dogs,

they rabbit dogs......

got a mate that will take you out tho, if you dont belive

Trust me I dont need anyone to take me out ..but I just cant see your method working the minute the beam is swithed off the advantage is definatley swung in the foxes favour and he will see anything coming towards him never mind here or smell his foe I have killed [plenty foxes out the beam but wouldnt switch the lamp off intentionally to run charlie ...next time your out get one of your mates to stand att the other side of a field and get him to shine the lamp on you ....thats what foxey sees when your lampin him ....

Getting back to origonal question get a rifle

I cant be annoyed with this but correst me if im wrong ....what your are adviseing the lad is if you have a shy fox that is well out.... sight the dog with the lamp on ....slip the dog then switch off the lamp and just before the dog get s to charlie switch the beam on and remember the lad said well seasoned foxes at this time of year not 3/4 growen cubs

i aint adviseing nowt,

im just saying that i have seen the above method used an foxes caught,

if its that hard tae belive....

come see

At what time of year ? and I will pass on your invitation stick to the bunnies fella

The advice I would give if you had a particuarly shy fox when it was legal to run them with a lurcher is

Bait a field in a spot where the fox has a bit to go to get to cover and allows you to get to a good spot where you can lamp him for a decent slip for the dog ....keep feeding it everyday then when the wind is right sneak up switch the lamp on and if hes there slip the dog

A bit of advice the bait you are using use plenty of cut up small pieces scattered around as this will keep foxy there for as long as possible sniffing about and picking up the bait
