Hardfeather 56
Hi all one of my dogs tonight, the whippet x is sort of rasping, she'll be laid down then stands up all of a sudden and starts, because she wouldnt settle she went a bit wobbly at one point I should think with lack of oxygen like when they're being sick and keep moving.I've had a listen to her chest and I can hear gurgling wether its off her lungs or her throat I'm not too sure, she had the cough last summer but I've worked her since then over the winter...any ideas lads or lasses? yis chris Quote Link to post

No she didn't have this last summer she had the cough I wonder if it has anything to do with all the tree pollen about at the moment, irrataing her lungs? I'm not sure if its pollen or not we've got rucks of rape round here and its in full flower, don't think she'd be dehydrated becuase my cottage is cool inside and there's always water available yis chris Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
have her checked for lung worm ... the cure is anti biotics and a weeks course of panacure ....... however if you can hear gurgeling and she is short of breath then that sounds like a damaged lung taking on fluid ... however you look at it it is definately a vet job mate .............. Guest chilli
I was told dont know if its true , that if you pull the srcuff of a dogs neck back if it goes back to postion the dog is hydrated properly if it creases a little it is not . maye be bollox or a test you could try ? Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
that is true chilli if you lift a dogs scruff and leave it go and it stays stood up that is a good indication of dehydration ..... but the symptoms mentioned are not dehydration ............. Quote Link to post
longdog 0
I have had one of my Staghounds come on with a hard raspy/hacking sort of cough last season after a very long course on a good fast hare. It lasted about 2 days and I never did figure out what was going on with her. She goes for a good long run daily and at first I thought she was not quite fit enough. Maybe it is the dry climate here in the central US. Quote Link to post

Pennymeadow Whippets 0
Sounds like the start of Kennel Cough the whippet world is full of it at the moment most of the racing clubs around the country have it & some opens have been cancelled but people from infected clubs :realmad: are still going to other clubs & infecting there clubs at the Lancashire Pedigree Whippet Racing Club our comitee put a temperary *** on dogs that have raced at infected clubs & as a result our club is one of the few who is still running running & Kennel Cough free A course of antibiotics will sort Kennel cough out if thats what it is Quote Link to post
