Ron Thompson under a different name?

Come on, folks, someone has to pay for Matt's orthodontal bill...

the bivvy something 8 is good value for money

their more expensive rod is meant to be made from the same blank as my free spirit es rods

if that is true then that particular rod is really good value for money

would not touch their alarms

its delkins for me or if you want cheaper then the fox alarms are best

they have brought out a new range of rods for over £300. now id never pay that much for a rod even if i could afford it but when you get into that price bracket your contending with hardys and prestons etc and with a £300 rod comes the prestige (spelling) and cudos of the brand that you wont get with tf gear

My rods new are £230 but i got 4 x second hand for £440 which i think was a bargain

Carp fishing is my hobby and that is where my money goes, still i dont drink or gamble and the bills are paid

that is a bargain if you look at it like that but i dont see how tackle companys can charge sutch extortionate prices. take the new basia tornament, £600 is it? for a reel! yeah it'll be the very best quality and it wants to be for that price, but surely it wont cost that much to produce. my view is that they charge that much because they know that carpers are daft enough to pay it, when you think that most carp men fish with 2-3 rods thats £1800 just on reels alone. it a massive scam thats designed to snare the gullable

Who pays RRP?

I don't. Not unless I'm desperate, like last year on a fishing holiday when I needed a wand, and ended up paying full price from a local tackle shop......

TF gear, like Ron Thompson, seems to be permanently discounted.

£1800? Look on the angling forums. Big discussions as to which £2000 pole to get.

Im disagreeing with kingfisher and droid now i have 2 tfg twin tip rods for my boris fishing but they tend to get pushed in to being used for my close season tenching and breaming and i couldn't wish for anything better, having worked in the tackle trade a few years ago i decided its not the label or the price but how the bloody thing works! Matt Hayes can have another £300 of my money any day if the next avons i get are as good as these. You can have a waggle Wednesday Kingfisher :D

I'm just voicing an opinion.

Mind, I can't talk too loudly. I use Masterline JW rods a lot, and some people wouldn't touch them. But they work, and I can afford them. :D

To get back to moley's original question, if TF gear does it for you, and the ptice is right then fine, but there's plenty of options at the sort of price most TF gear goes at. Best option is to get to a decent tackle shop and handle some rods.

Just remember that you usually get what you pay for: my cheap Masterline JW rods handle OK and are good workaday rods that do the job, but the more expensive Fox and Normark rods I have are in a different class entirely......

sounds like a good deal on the rods but its all in the preasntation as u will know the way u present the bait and what rigs u use u can use any rods and bait runners for carping but a nice set up always helps

ive got the x1 river and stream and its quality , i think they are made by free spirit. i also have the 5-6 rod quiver and its brilliant ive had it since it came out and its still in good condition , my mates gone through 3 or 4 chub and shakespeare ones in the same period. the alarms look a bit naff though , have a look at steve neville alarms a bit cheaper than delks and more reliable
