What are your thoughts on whippets in general Has anyone got a litter planned for this year? or can anyone recommend a good line of working whippets to look into? Hare shot and retrived all every thing caught Daytime. they work cover well dispite what people say there not as soft and frigile as non whippet workers make out, and they don't half have good stamina I never had the pleasure of working dogs prio the ban but they are more than capable of deer and fox too im sure some other whippeties will have some proof for you Tom Quote Link to post
whip x grey 276 Posted February 21, 2009 Report Share Posted February 21, 2009 i have been in whippet racing (b,w,r,a type whippet ),,,since i was born ,,,and although there fastest ,,,i have been brought up with lurcher,s and greyhounds,,,and had gundogs, i,e x gamekeeper,,,,,( i went back to whippet gross,,,,as i think there the best,,i find them easier to train,and perfect pet,s i think any whippet ,,i,e good speed hardy,,,working or ped and non ped whippet,s that catches rabbits , big rabbits or pre ban roe deer,,,,are all good if trained right i,e not left in kennel to rot,,,,,,can be great,,and bidable,,as long as pll,s spend the time,,,,mine have very good call back,do everything i ask,,,,and make fantisic pet.s in house ive had a 23inch 36lber ,,,take a full adult roe on her own,,,,and belive it or not 1st roe she ever seen great dog,s mate,,,,,well worth a try,,,,if trained right,and time spent on them Quote Link to post

Guest little lurcher Posted February 21, 2009 Report Share Posted February 21, 2009 personally id never be without a whippet , even my lurchers have a bit of whippet somewhere in their make up all bar 1!!! i work , show , lure course and do obedience with mine , i cant find another breed as versitile tbh? there is a forum dedicated to the working whippet , it is the first place id send you for all things working whippet , i am not a member of the whippet forum , but it does the whole range of activities not just working pm Pennymeadow for the link to the working whippet forum also please do use the whippet forum as well Quote Link to post

Guest little lurcher Posted February 21, 2009 Report Share Posted February 21, 2009 ok then tell me another breed, that you can do so much with , as in , various other activities not involving working? i know from my own i can show, lure course, agility , obedience ( been placed at champ level too) as well as an excellent family pet, clean easy to train . mimnimal coat care suitable for familys or older persons, will live happy alone or with a pack, need i go on , if there is another breed please tell me , i could well be blinkered, but afetr living all my life with whippets i could well be bias Quote Link to post

gonetoearth 5,144 Posted February 21, 2009 Report Share Posted February 21, 2009 an old mate of mine had whippets for years he used to race them around the northwest, but these little dogs were demons , i watched them over the years , kill cats rats rabbits , hares, fox, they would stand and shake, old women would stop and pat them little darlings, the same little darling would spring to life on the lamp, not you light force mod cons of to day , an old car lamp and motorbike batts , whippet are great all rounders , Quote Link to post
