trapperman 474
has anyone used the solway mk6 spring trap for rabbits i have 30 mk6 fenns but need more, i have had a bad experience buying some cheaper traps before but the solway trap has been approved for use in the uk. they are a couple of pounds cheaper but if theyre not up to scratch i will stick with the fenns. if anyone can share their thoughts on the solway trap that would be great. cheers. 120-2 8
I have a few, very strong springs. They had a few problems with the first batch I think, but mine seem ok. Quote Link to post

aaronpigeonplucker 32
nice pics! witch is more effective on rabbits? spring traps like fenns and that trap or snares? Quote Link to post
120-2 8
I use a mixture of Fenn Mk6, Springer No6 and Solway Mk6 , bodygrips and snares. All are good in different situations. Quote Link to post
trapperman 474
nice pics! witch is more effective on rabbits? spring traps like fenns and that trap or snares? i suppose it depends on how good you are at snaring, i havent had enough experience with snares to call myself anywhere near a pro but i get o.k results, if on a job i have access to the burrows i like to hole trap with mk6, if set right they catch any rabbit going in or out you can also catch rabbits in wire tunnels in fences etc: Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
They might, initially, look like the cheaper Chinky copies but the new batch of Solway traps are stamped SOLWAY No4 and SOLWAY No6 on the plate to avoid any confusion. The springs are incredibly strong and they kill well. OTC Quote Link to post

Axholme Ferreter 0
I bought ten Solway Mk6s last year to try. The traps initially look OK and appear to compare well with Springer and Fenn traps in respect of the spring strength etc. However the design is slightly different and out of the first 6 rabbits I caught with these traps 5 were still alive in the trap!! I contacted Solway who were indifferent about the matter. The guy even stated that he would not personally use the traps himself to catch rabbits and that they were intended more for use on mink and they had had no complaints about them. He did say however that they were looking at modifying the traps though so I hope they have done that as the traps I have are totally inhumane. Did not offer to replace the traps I had bought though. Stick to Fenns and you know where you are with them. All the best AF Quote Link to post

(i dont do much mink work) Quote Link to post
120-2 8
A drowning line is not legal over here but they probaly have different laws to us in Ireland. Also the company that make Springers, A.B Country Products are investing more money and resources into trap design and strength than Fenn & Co. I think when the new EU legislation comes in the killing time on all but a few traps will need improving. Quote Link to post
