CZ .17HMR Silhouette

The Bipod is Harris notched legs...

Is it difficult to mount a harris bipod to a gun with a synthetic stock?

I have heard you drill a small hole for the bipod stud, and then screw it in.

Would it be better to get a proper gunsmith to do it?

Did you/gunsmith need to use something like this?

As far as I am aware ALL the 452 and 453 come with studs already fitted..job done!!

Yes Im almost certain you're right

Look in the picture (i know its .22lr) you can see the two studs clearly at the front and rear of the stock

I went into my local gunshop today, and they've just had a brand new .17HMR CZ 452 Silhouette delivered for me

(it had the studs fitted as well)

Deker I wanted to ask, how long is the barrel on your gun? The one in the shop looked abit short like it might have been a 16" barrel, instead of a 20" barrel like I wanted.

Is there anywhere on the gun that says how long the barrel is (i know i can just measure it..) Also does anyone what barrel lengths are available for this model? (ive heard of 16" and 22.5" , but i thought there was a 20" also)

Also I found it a bit strange that it said CZ Varmint on the barrel , when its actully a Silhouette (it has synthetic stock , and a blued barrel).

What does yours say on the barrel?

Thanks for taking the time to help :)

it will be the 16" barrel mate. i have exactly the same rifle but style rather than silhouette. i was told by a very large number of people that with a rimfire there is little or no noticeable accuracy changes from a 20" to 16" barrel with the 16" being more versatile and easier to use in a car which is why i went for that one.

go for the 16" you wont be disappointed.

best of luck, Jack

Barrel wise the Silhouette/Style is available in 16" or 22.5". The 22.5 is the normal length the barrel is made, anything shorter requires a further cut etc, and so a shorter barrel ends up costing more. The barrel IS 22.5 inches long in its entirety but taking out barrel fitting, action and breech area many would call it 20". Mine is full length. I have not seen one with the length marked on it.

The Varmint is a heavy barrel, if you have one of these in a synthetic stock then you either have a very new, or custom gun. The heavy barrel does not fit the normal barrel Silhouette/Style synthetic stock!

Thanks for your reply, that information was about the barrel lengths was really useful to know

I phoned today, and the CZ I saw was in fact a 16" barrel --> which usually cost more like you say. At £320 I guess this is a good price.

The Silhouette i saw in the gunshop had Varmint engraved on the barrel , but the barrel was not a 'heavy' thick barrel. :hmm:

He showed me a CZ Varmint 16" heavy barrel at the same time, and its barrel was much thicker, so i know the differnce .

If you could say everything engraved on your barrel that would be some great info, except anything you dont want to list (like serial number etc)

I think i would prefer a 22.5" because of the extra accuracy at long ranges (is there alot of differnce between the 16" and 22.5" in terms of accuracy?)

Also I think it looks slightly better, especially when i put my big scope on it lol

Thanks :)

All mine has on the barrel is Cal .17HMR, made in Czech Republic. CZ 452-2E ZKM serial numbers and proof marks..there is NO name!!

The full length barrel WILL be slightly more accurate and slightly more powerful, but if truth be know you will have to be of Olympic standard to notice the difference!!
