what does the future hold for the working whippet

what does the future hold for these great little workers

 

now with the hunting ban in mainland uk i would of thought that the whippet would of been the ideal working dog you would not get chased all over the country acused of hare coursing or god forbid killing poor we foxes this i thought would be good for the breed and now that more and more people would see the whippet as a true allrounder and inporve the breed to fit this roll by breeding stronger type dogs with far better jaw thicker set with abit more bone but along side the hight standard set out just in case hare coursing under rule ever comes back surely in this day and age this would be the back bone for a good working whippet

 

but this is not what i see happening we have to main breeder of working whippet in the uk and both kennels have not tryed in my eyes to do any of the above why is this ?

 

all i can see for the future of working whippets is them getting bigger and bigger with weak jaws and no bone surely this is the time to impove the whippet as a working dog

 

whats everyone eles views on this please put up your pics of your ideal whippet and tell us all what you think needs to improve in the mordern day working whippet

threre is loads of whippets being used but the problem with them is there like kc dogs there all breed the same laguna this & that sotty sam ect all the same right through there breeding. they go for daft prices becouse they come with a kc witch just means that the breed is f**ked from the kcs history & you have to pay more. give me a good x any day & i use a whippet now so i have no reason to put them down like you say there good little rabbit dog but before i used a whippet i had a bediexwhippet & it was just as good if not better than my whippet on the rabbits.

I THINK THE POINT OF THIS POST IS BEING MISSED, WHAT ROBERT IS SAYING IS HE FEELS THAT KC REGISTERED WHIPPETS ARE CRACKING FOR WORKING BUT SOME NEED A BOOST IN THE JAW AND BONE STRUCKTURE.

well as a breeder of correct whippets that work , i can see no reason WHY you have to breed bigger???? as in previous threads , my dogs do all i ask and more so why would i up the size to suit a few???

 

the whippet since the ban has also made the top twenty breeds , not sure if thats a good or bad thing but it has , also showing a rise in the owners whom wish to work their dogs

lol robert im on your side!!!! this is happening in both show whippets and the working breds but there are still a few of us aiming to keep the whippet true

to compete in organised coursing the dogs have to be under height of 20inches

Think that whippets have not be changed for years because they do the job there ask to do. Why would you want more jaw on them when my whippets catch me dinner i want to be able to eat it!. They are one of a handfull of kc dogs that havn't change in a hundred years why change something that works literally works .

why better jaw as most i have seen recently have dead snippy jaws and weak at that what does better jaw got to do with you dinner is hard mouth that will crunch your dinner not a good jaw

Just the general feeling i get reading most posts concerning whippets on here! I dont think i am alone in thinkimg this. Also it was not intended to be offensive mate i have seen more than enough posts degenerate into slanging matches on here to last me a lifetime! Regards Charles.
