Guest Gavkent
Just been thinking about all the dog thefts recently and realised ive been stoped by police for coursing in numerous counties, had photos taken of me, my car, my dogs but never once have they scanned my dogs to see if microchipped and that i am the owner. Of course they are chipped and are mine but wondered if they did do this to all coursers some of you lot might get your dogs back. Quote Link to post

riohog 5,818
good point made its a shame the police are more interested in catching hare coursers than theives it has probebley never crossedtheir tiny minds to scan the dogs for proof of ownership Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
I think the only true proof of ownership is a registered tattoo - microchips are handy but no seen as legal proof of ownership for some silly reason. Quote Link to post
Rainmaker 7
microchips are handy but no seen as legal proof of ownership for some silly reason. Well, someone could nick your dog and chip it for starters? Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
Good point. And in a perfect world an already chipped dog would be scanned in every situation - picked up as a stray, new client at the vets etc. So if you nicked a dog and tried to chip it again it would be picked up on. Guest Gavkent
i heard dog theives are cutting the chips out now. sick b*****ds i was just thinking cos mate had litter out of lucky dog, got them tattooed sold a few then got em back about year later for free, but point i was making if the police dont scan your dogs (or look in ears for tattoo) how do they know whose dogs they are. Personally i wouldnt chip a working terrier anyway, its like leaving trail back to you if you have to run and leave dog when under. thats how my mate got caught and hes banned for life now, what an idiot. but for running dogs its a defo, cos even if your coursing and you have to leave your dog, it should come back to you, just say it was stolen or run off. I wouldnt leave my dog and run off, and the tattoo thing, my dad said before that he had terrier with a tattoo on the chest, because if its on an ear its not hard for the dog thieves to just chop em off Edited February 22, 2009 by jimmy0211 Quote Link to post
