Guest ferret feller
i find that my jills bolt more rabbits and i dig less if i only work the jills i dig a few times but not all that much... if i work my hob i get a dig everytime without fail... he bolts alot faster though but he kills equally fast.... 8shot 192
i prefer working my hob not that the jill isnt any good but my hob will stay down untill the rabbit comes out the hob does work a bit slower than the jill but its all down to what you want atb Quote Link to post
RaiderBoy 19
I prefer jills because you dont have to do as much digging + ive been bitten by every hob i pick up and never been bitten by a jill Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,900
I have 2 hobs and 1 is 4 years old and a brilliant worker, the other is last years breeding and ive failed to get him to hunt.He refuses to go below ground most of the time.He has bolted 3 rabbits in 12 months and i think thats mainly because he came across them by accident.I got him from a bloke living close to me.I have had him out every sunday and lately 2-3 days a week and he just wont hunt for me.Im keeping ferrets for almost 30 years and this is the only ferret I can recall that didnt make the grade.I think his time is up at my hostel and I will be looking for a replacement this year for him. stealthy1 3,964
This season I have worked mainly a hob and a jill, two up most of the time, the jill because of her size is able to climb over the rabbit if it is down a stop-end, then 7 out of 10 times she will kill it when she gets to the head, the hob on the other hand is to big to climb over, so he stays with the quarry until you dig him out, or you can wait for him to move on, odd times if the jill has two or three rabbits up the same stopend, she will work her way to the front and do the lot of them. They seem to vary as to which is best on any given day. Quote Link to post
