Thanks very much for that Jenny.

Would any of the people who have posted messages on that forum be willing to let us join them on a mutually convenient date with a reporter and photographer to watch what you do?

We would then do a report with pictures etc of what goes on, and give you the chance to get across your side of the story.

Maybe this could be a way of eradicating some of the "terrible press" which is referred to in many of the messages.

I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks

Ian

what should i do?

Leave well alone if I were you. If they're against it they'l find a way of making it look bad even if you do everything by the book.

I hadn't read this thread, but LDR mentioned it to me tonight while we were lamping; we were both of the oppinion DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH REPORTERS !! They will tell you anything to get you out there, but the story they write up for their newspaper will be completly different !! It will be all about "savage dogs", "blood thirsty hunters" and "cuddly rabbits being torn to bits" !!!! There is NO reporter that would give this a positive spin; they need sensationalism to sell papers. Please DO NOT be naive enough to fall for this !!

Cheers.

My 2p's jnput for what its worth, I agree totally with the guys that are saying this is a bad idea.

1) No matter how good a night you have the story will be written from the writers perspective so unless he is pro-hunting the article wont be balanced

2) You can bet that the story will end with comments like I dont understand the appeal of blinding a denfenceless animal and setting a dog on it

3) Your morality and judgement will be questioned especially if you have to dispatch the rabbit

4) You may be branded as bloodthirsty if you kill more than one.

I could list plenty other reasons why you shouldn't do it but consider this, given the spate of dog thefts there has been do you want to advertise your dog? Theres also the potential for this to go belly up if you have a crowd of people wandering around with you, the rabbits will be off before you get anywhere near them. To many pitfalls for this to turn out well so best left alone IMO.

just had a thought, say if two people went along with 3 dogs but only slipped one at a time is that still breaking the law? as it is legal to lamp rabbits with one dog but illegal with two if i remember correctly !

If you go out with this bloke, you'll need to know the hunting bill backwards, they'll quote you left right and centre if you get it wrong!!!!!

Send him a copy of purdeys progress and tell him there's a load of DVDs if he's interested!!!!

Why not tell him to join the site and answer the critics????

aye im not really sure about going myself but was just a question that may need answering as i cant find the answer on the defra website

You'll not find the answer in the hunting bill cos its not illegal to hunt rabbits with dogs!!!!!! You'll find the dog number thing was to do with fox hunting, that you can use 2 hounds to flush a fox to a line of guns!!! I 'think' then if a safe shot cant be taken, the lead hound is allowed to kill the fox on its own or a bird of prey can be used!!!!

This was explained to the hounds and they all agreed that Bonzo would be the one leading and the rest of the pack, with hundreds of years of breeding, said they'd put their instincts aside and stand and watch!!!! :clapper::clapper:

If he's really that interested in it, ask him to do a story about the hunting bill, what it entails, how it was pushed through parliament, and about the catastrophic effects it has on animal welfare..........then once he's done that, then maybe people might consider letting him know a bit more about our world????

Like they say, you have to earn trust!!!!!!!

i couldnt agree more if he whants to do a story about lamping make him prove he isnt just anti hunting. let him right a story in the paper based on facts about hunting where he as put time in to research the hunting laws. compareing how rabbits are dispatched legaly in slaughter houses & in the field. becouse if he sees you brack a rabbits neck that can be enough to make the report sound like the people that lamp with dog are evil sick c**ts that need locking up. reporters are doing a job to get payed by selling there storys & most the time that is all they are storys with very few facts in them becouse the facts dont mater selling papers mater thats what pays there wages. i bet he cant right a fact based story about hunting not being cruel even though all the fact are on the net & he dosent have to leave the office or go lamping with anyone. it whouldnt sell papers so whouldnt even get in a paper. like ldr sead you have to earn trust & he or is paper asnt earned no lampers trust they didnt even right a apology in there paper about geting the facts wrong in there first story. witch is somthing they whould do for most othere storys.

Reporters dont use facts they bothered about a good story even if that means lying and its obvious that they anti's so you could take your dogs with bows and ribbons around there necks you'd still get an article slating the hunting community.

I agree to stay well clear.

Apart from the possiblity of them being antis. Look at it from their uninitiated view. They are obviously not really interested in anything you might say or any good that might come from their aquaint. They write stories that sell papers ...end of!!

The dog strikes a bunny (in their eyes) from 200 yards and depending on the circumstances or viewpoint either sits with it, parades it or carrys it back over 200 yards still squealing. They are going to report on the barbarism that this still goes on in modern Britain.

They don't give a shit what you or i think.

Tread very carefully folks and be careful about taking advice from someone who joined 4 days ago. If im barking up the wrong tree on a personal note then i apologise Jesse, but id say if any benefits could arise from taking reporters out into the field let it be done by some of our supporting organisations.
I was not advising that any one should do it i just wrote about some thing i had done ,like i wrote it is different since the ban .,{jumping to conclusions }not good. Edited by jessy
