whippet08 8
hello, i have two hobs, 10 days ago one had the snip, and after 10 days seperation from his brother i put him back with him, strait away my other hob (who used to be the less dominant)was strait on him tugging at his neck, now hoping they would sort it out after a while i returned a bit later,to find him now pumping away, now they used to do this occaisionley, returning the next morning they were tucked up in bed, i went to work today, came too feed them, and heard the snipped one squelling and looking very unhappy getting tugged about, i got him out and checked his back which is red raw,i have applied some sudacream and poped him in a spare hutch, now his back is very sore what i want too know is would you recommend seperating permanenty or keep them together and hope it calms down, i want whats best for the ferrets and being on there own is not ideal, but the back will not heal with the other constantly tugging him around, what shall i do and why is the other being so aggresive, there brothers. any replies greatly appreciated. cheers Rich Quote Link to post
The one 8,487
it would appear hes going to get humped till the breeding seasons over so i would seperate them and maybe try them again in a month and if the same happen seperate them perminatily Quote Link to post
SwissTony 0
Are they both snipped or just the one??? Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
Might be worth keeping them apart till the back heals.Re-introduce them in a neutral area if poss & see how it goes under your supervision, hopefully after a few days the status quo may return. My 2 hobs(brothers) had the snip 2 weeks ago,1 jills coming into season but there getting on fine but if it starts getting naughty i'll seperate them. whippet08 8
cheers lads will keep them seperated for now, when does the breeding season end? and only one hob is snipped as keeping the other too breed in the future Quote Link to post
col g 0
ive seperated all my hobs.mine were doing exactly the same.you will find it wont stop.and if you seperate them and try introducing them in a few weeks they will do the same again.its that time of year where all they are interested in is mating.youre better off leaving them seperated til the end of the season then putting them back together.i have not long since give two polecat hobs to my father in law which are brothers,he says they are starting to drag each other about, they may not like being seperated but its best in the long run,one of them will either end up injured or possibly dead ,ive seen this happen and its not a pretty sight Quote Link to post
whippet08 8
cheers, do you mean breeding season and if so when does this generaly end rich Quote Link to post
col g 0
cheers, do you mean breeding season and if so when does this generaly end rich yeah ,during the breeding season mate, all ferrets differ in when they come out of season as they do when they come into season.they normally start coming out of season round abouts august time, some may be earlier and some later, the only way to tell is have a look at their genital area, once the swelling starts to subside they are coming out Quote Link to post
The one 8,487
cheers, do you mean breeding season and if so when does this generaly end rich Aye once there teste's retreat back into there body you can consider your hob out of breeding condition . Quote Link to post
lorelei0922 2
they tend to come out of season toward the fall... and you can leave the castrated hob in with the group but the whole male will need to be taken out or he'll just keep at them all... good luck! Quote Link to post
