selvey 2
Out at Invergowrie bay this morning hundreds of Greylags and pinks shot 3 Greylags only picked 2 brilliant way to end the season must say i missed the easiest ones right over me in the first light which would usually be easy right and left but never mind that how it goes great flight tho. Last Sat was also great had another pair then good times. my total is less than other years this year i usually shoot around 20 geese a season off the tay but only shot 8 greylags this year no pinks but had some really enjoyable flights. Sounds like an escaped domestic, never seen that before, someone forgot to clip the wings this year then!
mj robson 8
Selvey, Well done with the geese! It's a pure white Greylag (rather wild) and has been using the roost up past Seaside for the last 2 years with the rest of the migratory greys. I'd guess it's an albino. I had it about 100 yards off me at christmas time out on the mud in a bunch of about 200. We've been out for 5 flights and 2 stalks this week, managed to get under a few geese getting 10 in the bag and 4 Does. I'm back out on Friday for the end. Cheers, Mark. tom1cameron 1
If its an albino or a domestic it is at risk if it passes over me, yum yum. Would love to find out about it, I'll have a check on the bird forums. Well done on the geese and roe MJ, have a good'un on Friday, oh to be back in the homeland and close to the shore. Leeds is great but living in the most landlocked city in the UK sucks! PS, WHere's that photo taken from? Edited February 19, 2009 by tom1cameron
mj robson 8
Tom, It's a nice wee spot out by the river channel off Seaside. The pinks always land out there if the tide is right and your willing to wade to get back in. I shot 2 from there last night. Cheers, Mark.
mudman 14
There were one or two white greys with our local resident greylags and they were nice to see, gave some idea of the geese movements within the area. But now they are interbreeding a bit too well with the normal greylags and most of the Humber wildfowlers have a shoot on sight policy, trying to pick any white ones out of a skein in an attempt to keep the bloodline pure. Not all of them are pure white with a fair few being pied with varying amounts of white plumage. The proportion of white feathered birds within the local population is still relatively low, at a guess I would say about 1%, maybe slighty more after the breeding season as once the wildfowling starts they do tend to be preferentially culled. Yeah he was at high risk at my neck of the woods i will certainly be looking for him next season that would be a picture to get him in the bag. Mj Robson how did Friday go mate last day????? mj robson 8
Selvey, I had a single Grey and my mate had 2, evening flight on the forth. There were a good few small bunches of greys coming in but made very hard shooting where we were because they came with a strong tail wind. I had 3 chances and only had the 1 goose, pretty poor shooting! I ended the season with good memories though, 11 grey's in 5 flights from that particular spot and all my geese came off the foreshore. Cheers, Mark.
