if you want coursing dogs then why would you wanna use a greyhound?? All a greyhound adds to the mix is size and speed. Use a saluki lurcher every time, just use a fast one and not a plodder. there is plenty out there.

tried what your saying twice before with this dog when younger to some bitches that were tidy, got nothing special get few but thats not good enough. my dog is missing that speed but has everything else, cant understand it cos he always pulls to them but if 100 yd slip he takes about a minute to get there. i want this same dog but that can get there like the pup i crossed a whippet with him, she only lacked height, if i got good result across a pure whippet surely id get better result with grey.

not all good dogs produce good pups though which is a shame. like someone said before if you have got a good dog and want another one like it, you might be better using the sire coz you know he produces. Out of all the good constant hare dogs ive seen, none are out of a pure greyhound bitch. You can get a fast dog out of the slips with plenty of stamina. If your dog is lacking in either one of these then maybe there not as good as they should and maybe should not be bred from. if you want a fast dogs out of the slips then why breed from a slow dog?

he is a good dog all round, hes not slow cos even at 8 1/2 in feb caught three on fen, but like i say on long slips takes too long to get to it although does get there to bend em eventually, the reason i want to breed is i bred this dog its my own line his mother was pure saluki but was stolen at her best getting fours. unfortunately i cant breed from her or the original sire(died lamping) but want something from him before he goes too, had four litters with so called fast out of slip mixed saluki xs, who were all good dogs (not top but good).passed them on cos not triers like him. hes good enough but where do i go from here, i have no pure saluki bitch, if i do get cross from him with grey i can always go again later with other experiments with his offspring, the problem with him is that every run is like his last after christmas and i have to give him an hour between runs. you might say hes not good enough but i dont want match dog, just same as him will do, the initial speed i can live without but would prefer it if i can, if he had this he would have been match dog.

The whippetx pup i had out of him caught 19 daytime hares from 12 to 14 months on open land and fields, lamping she could catch five and run rabbits after, her second season was better but cut short due to an injury to me but was only small, she did pull straight to em, maybe i should have put him to her, but i have other dogs to bring on too. do you get what i mean about wanting something from him, him his mother are best dogs i ever had. and dont agree to buy in dogs already running for top money.

have had twp genuine first cross dogs and saw maybe a dozen from the greyhound cross saluki ,i wouldnt breed from a wristy bitch , just bred a litter simlair way to [bANNED TEXT] thinkin ,6 months ago there merlin and eve bred to boy blue 23 greyhound whippet to a distance greyhound who has no feet problems and one races at 1200 metres the pups are faster than the father a bit but still run with the head half cocked waiting for there chance ,there mother was 24 inches roughly and caught game were ever no broken bones and plenty pace and good wind for a grew , thtas the way i would go as the bitches through roughly 24 dogs 26 ideal for hare and beasties and a bit lamping ,if your breeding for your self get a bitch who you can see flush at a hare and see what she can do on other qaurry ,i wouldnt breed of a wristy bitch full stop, gives a pm i maybe be able to help you out on a good greyhound or big grew type , remeber its not just the dog the bitch must have a good mouth and sensible two , my grew was well coursed wiorked and she ran with her head up after second season and was a little stormer but hammerd her a bit on shitty ground , plodders are no good unless yopu have all the land in the world and well cant say no more

thanks mate, but i cant see that cos she hurt her wrist it means pups will have same problems, slipped her on one hare to try she run it fine not overshooting, trying to pick up, but not fit and her first. and in january, just cos she hasnt been coursed does it mean she couldnt have done? like i say a young grey should have good litter so must be one or two that look like dad, if not ill have to buy another bitch and i will take all these comments on board. thankyou everyone

good points mate thanks. the litter my dog came from had twelve, two died kept five sold five, from what i hear one i sold was half tidy. i ended up with two any good, all caught apart from one yapper. dog i have now and a bitch i sold for 800. but last litter across pure whippet out of 8 pups two died and two, 1 dog 1 bitch were decent killing threes reg i had the bitch and caught two on fen in january 09, both took after father in colour and face but not size, so from this id say two out of his litters are coming good. so with this grey i have to pick the best two but fortunately i know how to sort after doing it twice already, hopefully same as this last litter but with more size. i can have a pure saluki dog as well to put across grey next year if i want for free, so will have first x sal grey as well, but he is younger so will use my dog first. my mate owns benji, and hes been putting him to pure saukis to get best pups. hard in it. cheers mate.

if you want coursing dogs then why would you wanna use a greyhound?? All a greyhound adds to the mix is size and speed. Use a saluki lurcher every time, just use a fast one and not a plodder. there is plenty out there.

the reasons as already mentioned, to get a fast sal lurcher any good costs a bomb and not garanteed a good litter, i have fast sal lurcher of my own doing well but decided to put pure saluk to it, i want something like him before he dies, and my strain has gone forever, if greyhounds pups are no good (the two i keep will hopefully look like him then i can always put pups to pure saluki after cant i?).

gary mullhollands nipper was put to a greyhound the outcome was they wern't fast enough to be good fast killers and lacked the wind to handle the fens, nipper was put to a saluki and produced benji, barney and peggy they were all faster than nipper a pure saluki would be the way to go for me

do you know anyone whos got pure saluki bitch thats any good now? without spending loadsa money? cos i dont think there are any about and i really want to get something from him just in case, I have put my name to a pure sal bitch pup in summer but thats going to be at least 4 years before i would use that for breeding and if hes still here he'll be over 12yrs old. Im thinking of the grey cos its here and i could always put one of his offspring to the saluki bitch down the line. cos its more for me than for the coursing im happy if they are triers and get few along the way, not a gambling/match man.

I agree here but Kim was an exceptionally fast pure Saluki though so just be careful what you use
