Guest Gavkent
Just wanted any advice regarding breeding, I have an old dog out of pure saluki bitch and a salukixwhippetxgreyhound with swoop bloodlines, i bred him three years ago with a pure whippet and had few good puppies few bad, best was a bitch that killed regular on fields and caught few on fen after christmas, plenty of speed and stamina not associated with her size but sold cos too small for me. I have caught over 400 hares with my dog luke all over, hes 8 1/2 and caught three on fen last week, he is long, strong, good strike and plenty of stamina. but if i can find a fault with him its initial speed, he doesnt get to them quick enough to push them hard but will always get to them but has to do so much work first. He rarely misses when their tied up, but want a dog out of him that has bit more. I recently got hold of a 2 1/2 yr old ex racer retired due to wrist tendon, good stats 13 races 10 1st place, 1 2nd, 2 6th due to injury. I am thinking this is a good cross but few friends have said the pure grey will take some of the wind out, and im better to put to a pure saluki. Any advice would be appreciated because this is last season im running him and want a few pups from him for future. here is a picture of him and a few pics of my other hopefuls for next few years. Luke is 8 1/2. pups are 10 and 11 weeks old. Edited February 18, 2009 by Gavkent Quote Link to post

Guest Gavkent
i have a ex racing greyhound in pup this is the second time i have used a pure greyhound and i have had good results the last litter i bred was very fast and would stay upto 4 mins some only 3 mins i would stick with the greyhound mate thanks, what i want is something pure, the whippet i crossed first produced good initial speed, still had strike like dad, one i kept had no jacking in her, good stamina for her size so surely grey would do same but with more size. some people replying first cross sal grey or whippet sal grey but yoo could get right ol mixture, not garanteeing anything, if pure saluki bitch will i end up with something similar to what i have already a long plodder. i dont know i suppose i wont lose out if i try, wont cost me nought, could always try again next year with something else. help!!! huggy89 29
y didnt you put imto your bitch that is bred from jan jack nd balarecian bob Quote Link to post
Guest Gavkent
y didnt you put imto your bitch that is bred from jan jack nd balarecian boblike i said wanted something pure so not to end up with mixture of pups, already got pup from that bitch with pure saluki, got another pup from pure saluki different bitch, i was led to believe if you have a good strain put something pure to it saluki, grey, or whippet. other wise youll just end up with mixtures that counter act each other, tried it many times two good dogs dont always give good pups but good dog cross pure i think is best way, ill keep a dog and the bitch that looks more like father (luke). so have 3 dogs, 1 bitch gotta be one there makes grade. beddy greyhound mad 0
put luke over it you no it makes sence Quote Link to post
Guest Gavkent
put luke over it you no it makes sence lukes not the problem i know hes a good dog but the greyhound might take away his stamina qualities cos he is only about 60% saluki, never mind i can only hope cos hes getting old and running low on love juice, just have to make sure i pick something that looks like him. will keep a dog and bitch, hopefully she'll come in season this march if not got to wait till september. will u be wanting one then tucker? moonlighter 1,164
if you want coursing dogs then why would you wanna use a greyhound?? All a greyhound adds to the mix is size and speed. Use a saluki lurcher every time, just use a fast one and not a plodder. there is plenty out there. Quote Link to post
