Realy depends on who your insuring him with, also i would amagine its anywhere between £5.99-£24.99 a month,i looked into it a while back as my dog was ill out of blue and nearly lost her,im still looking for best insurance as they all cover different bill etc! Great idea to get them insured though!

I have just looked at getting insurance for my 6 month old pup, i was going to put 'crossbreed' as his breed but i decided to put Lurcher because if my vet names him as a Lurcher and i have him insured as a crossbreed it might invalidate my insurance!

Yes, I had the same problem, Vet put 'Lurcher' on vaccination card, however I have one Lurcher with Petplan (crossbreed policy) & one with Sainsbury's. & they are both registered as Crossbreeds. If you check online with all of the insurance companies they now list Lurcher as a breed, but of course technically it is not, they are all Crossbreeds. They are not Kennel Club recognised, so how can these companies list them as a breed ? And you may have noticed that it is more expensive to insure a Lurcher rather a Crossbreed, crazy isn't it?

I have 'Cover for life' for both of my hounds, & have NEVER had any problems with claims from both companies, for injuries caused by working or racing, i,e Broken toe which had to be removed, torn shoulder muscle, wrist injury, ( have never admitted to vet though that the dog was working or racing though) Vet has never really asked. Hope this is of some help. My only advice to anybody insuring their hound is to get 'Cover for Life', which unfortunately will cost a bit more...

I have been thinking about taking out some insurance to sort out any extreme vets bills that may come my way in years to come. can anyone give me any advice? who to insure with?, what are the costs? what is covered etc, etc.

we use marks and sparks as they hav ethe highest fee's coverage and the best of the rest of all the other covers they are£17 a month.we put them down as cross breeds and the vet put one down as greyhound cross but they paid up the £5000 bill for a busted leg with out blinking a eye.its false economy to get the "cheapest" as some cover virtually f**k all.
