Guest EWOK
Wow what a fish there Joe, I'm trying to remember if I've ever caught anything that big and don't think I have, some catfish maybe close but not that masive looking. How do they pull, the ones I caught in Okla. were 5-10 pounds and felt like you were pulling in a log, not much fight, but the ones we shot with the bow could really act up. Shooting them with the bow was when they were breeding I think because they would line up like box cars trying to get to another lake. When I was younger we would pull all nighters at the swamp and set our catfish poles up on forked sticks and use little bells on the end of the rods to tell if we had a bite, these were mud cats and were 1-3#, we could eat them about as fast as we caught them. Those were the good old days and we drank alot of beer and pasted out holding our rods. The only big freshwater fish that would come close to your carp would be our blue channel and flathead catfish in the larger rivers. My wive's uncle fished the Ark. river for big cats using 14 ft surf rod and ambasidor 7000 reels with 100# braid nylon line, he caught some big cats, 50-60#. Had a small,3ft x 2ft boat with remote control electric motor for taking his bait out since he could not cast it far enough. He pasted away before I could get out there and go with him. Looks like you have it down to a science. The only all night fishing I do now is flounder gigging and mostly with my wife. She really loves seeing all the fish that swim around in the lights. We just started doing this last year and am waiting for it to get a bit warmer at night before we start this year. thanks for the great pictures and maybe if I can figure out the camera and how to load them on the internet I'll show you some of our fishing adventures.
