ive got a d80 with 55 200 sigma and 70 300 nikon

55 200 gets the most use good mid range lense

yeah i was looking at a sigma 55 200. they seem around the £100 mark so quite reasonable?

I used a sigma 18 - 200 mm lens on my old Nikon D50 with fairly good results - I think it cost me about £200 a year ago, but I'm sure the price of them has come down quite a bit since - in fact Im sure it was in Jessops for about £99 not long ago. I sometimes use the same lens on my new camera (Nikon D90).

Edited to add, must have been seeing things  its £229 in Jessops at the moment

My son uses my Nikon 70-300mm, and he gets some very good shots, the lense however has not got VR, and if I was ever going to get similar, it would have VR on it, it can make all the difference, it will however be more expensive. Most of us cant afford what we, as wildlife photography enthusiasts should have lense wise..a fast piece of quality glass..

Here are some lense reviews for Nikon lenses..http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikkor.htm

i quite like the sound of the 18-200 cuz i will not always have a tripod so am thinking i will still be able to use it whereas a 70 - will need one all the time?? am i right in thinking this??

Yeahh, maybe your right....

Think I might invest in one of those tripod thingys...

Im not as rich as you Martin, my 70-300mm hasnt got VR, if I got another zoom that size it deffo would have..I only shoot wildlife photographs, and VR for me is a godsend, everything I shoot is handheld, with a few pics taken resting on a beanbag on my car window
