lilvixen 26
Good luck with the pups, hope you have fun with them.. I guess if they've been sold as just Border-type (or Border-cross), with a price tag to match, fair-do's... But if you've bought these pups as genuine bonafide pedigree Borders, you have been led a merry dance... Even more so if you've paid the going rate and been given papers for them. I hope it's the former... ATB Lilvixen Quote Link to post
The Breeder 156
Fordi - Firstly, the issues that you have got with Showman have got nothing to do with me or anybody else. But, I think your missing the point - if K94V has sold you those 2 pups in the pics and sold them as Border Terriers, then he has misled you. Because in my opinion Border Terriers breed true to type i.e if you ask for a pint of lager in your local and get a pint of cider - you wouldn't be happy. I believe that the black pup has got Patt in him somewhere. I have never in all of my experience (38 years) seen a black Border Terrier with papers. Its all well and good if your happy with the dog, but if you've paid good money for them and they were sold to you as Border Terriers - then you have been seriously misled. And if I was K94V then I would have told you that they were crosses and I would have sold them accordingly i.e price. I sincerely hope that the pups work well for you and they go on to become good bushing dogs. Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
Who gives a sh!t? If the pups do as he asks of them when they're old enough I doubt the owners will care much, I know I wouldn't. How do we know that the pups aren't throw backs anyway? I remember a lad on here putting pics up of pups that were out of top notch blacks, yet one of them come out white with black markings. "Blacks" are very different, their history is peppered with crossbreeds, Borders are not and you dont get solid coloured ones, sorry. The problem with it is, the buyer has been conned into parting with his money for something that isnt what its supposed to be, whether the breeder knows this or not I dont know, but what Id stake my life on is that the pups are crossbreeds and to sell them as pedigrees is wrong and dishonest. Doesnt matter what the dogs are for, how about a bit of decency in this world? Quote Link to post

samba 534
surley if they were borders the buyers would have there papers? and the black/tan one as white patch on chest which in my years with dogs results in russell blood so show us your papers and lets end this now Quote Link to post
mick 7
Both of my Borders have white on there chests My mates 3 have white on there chests Was at a show last year and there was a Border nearly all black with just a little bit of tan on its legs Rottys are black and tan but ive seen pure black with no tan on them One of me other mates has a pure black english bull Black is a dominant colour cant see why you couldnt throw a pure black Border every now and again Lets face it they wouldnt get sold by the show people cause there not surposed to be that colour and they wouldnt want people knowing they were putting that colour out Mick.. No Mick, you cannot get a solid coloured Border, its not genetically possible. White on the chest has always been acceptable, mine all have it. Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
Dawn is right, many borders will have either a dot or a star of white on their chests, but you dont get jet black borders it just doesnt happen. Quote Link to post
Guest reload
I wonder IF K94V will tell us if there cross bred or not? Quote Link to post
mick 7
Not to clever with genetics But they bread a red and tan Rotty I dont serpose they thought that was possible either Ryan.. Quote Link to post

Yes Ryan that IS possible genetically, as is the long haired Rottweiler, the long coat gene cioming from its Bernese Mountain dog ancestors. A Red Rottweiler is not considered by the standard because of a genetic problem that inhibits the black base coat color Quote Link to post
