Guest air gunner
Hi i am thinking of buying a carrera 707 air rifle this gun can be tuned to 80fps or it can be 12fps i do not have an FAC so is it legal for me to own this. any info on the gun too please. Quote Link to post
olim 28
fps is feet per second not the power, the power is pounds of pressure and yes it would be illegal for you to own one over 12pounds of pressure, hope this helps Quote Link to post
Guest air gunner
ah that is usefull can someone explain fps and pounds pressure? to be legal do you need 12fps or 12 pounds? so if this gun is capable using a tool to modify of exceeding 12 ? it would be illegal for me to own? warbiscuit 0
ft/lbs = pressure fps = speed you can determine the pressure by taking pellet weight in grains, x speed in feet per second x speed again / 450240 (i think this is right, might have to check) this will then give you the pressure. for .22 with 14 grains, you expect around 590fps and .177 with 9 grains, around 780fps. there are plenty of pellet charts on this forum, if you're having trouble drop us a PM and i'll email you some good ones over. it is not illegal to own a weapon capable of FAC, as long as it is below 12ft/lbs. Once it is over that, FAC is required. WB Edited February 16, 2009 by warbiscuit Quote Link to post

I think you mean 12 ftlb Anyway, I would of thought It would be ok unless there's a powerwheel on the rifle so you can easily change the power?? Quote Link to post

Hello Bud, Its not 12fps??? its 12 fpe??? if you buy any gun that's set over 12 fpe your gonna end up in the klink bud unless you hold a valid licsense, so if the rifle your talking about is adjustable from 12 fpe upwards then you need a FAC and the person selling you the rifle should be asking you for one, if there not its probably dodgy and if I was you I would leave it well alone, hope this helps bud, Rob,, Quote Link to post
