If you have a local clay ground that gives lessons, why not have a visit there. If you are just setting out, they might be able to let you try an assortment of guns to help you decide. You will also, at least learn about the principles of lead etc. Personally, I would go for a 12 bore over / under, but you will decide for yourself. Don't be too hasty.

ive just had my shotgun certificate in the post :clapper: just wondering what caliber do you think is the best to start with

ive shot a 12b and i have no problem with the recoil i will be shooting rabbits and pigeons mostly

 

Try a 16 bore, a good compromise between the 12 and the 20. I have heard it is the most popular bore on the continent.

Im the same as you mate loads of rabbits and a few days at the pigeons i bought a baikal 12 bore not the nicest looking but it fires every time i pull the trigger and im not worried about it getting the odd scratch in a hide
