Fly fishing - beginner

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I don't normally post here but I have always wanted to do a bit of fly fishing. I have done course fishing for a good 7 or 8 years now and well I want to try something new, I just want to know if anyone knows of any good fly fishing spots in Hertfordshire and how much a licence is and if there are any other fees or information I would need to know.

Hi Joe, I dont freshwater myself but I do know your course fishing licence will do for fly aswell, not sure of local waters

for you to fish, Different waters charge more than others so seek out the cheaper ones

you will need a rod icense.for a biggener i would advise you to fish on a stocked fishery first and then when it becomes to easy for you look for good rivers and streams. wich you will need a special license to fish on. or if your a coarse fisherman go for carp on the surface with flies that look like bread. but stick with the stocked fshey. or talk to yur local tackle shop owner, he/she would know.

licence = £25.00 from post office........... covers trout, salmon, graylingetc on still and river

Not true im afraid

the rod licence that you buy from the post office for £25.00 covers you for Coarse fish and non migratory Trout only not Salmon

you will need to buy the more expensive game rod licence if you wish to fish for either Salmon or Migratory Trout

that said if you wish to take up fly fishing i would suggest that you think about the sort of water that you will fish before you commit to buying any tackle a rod suitable for fishing a team of flies on a reservior or large stillwater will be totally unsuitable for a small river or stillwater

see if your local water company organise any beginners days on their reserviors Anglisn water Severn Trent water etc these are a good start place and provided me with my introduction to fly fishing

good luck
