Guest lurchers n lamps
Im a 100% prp hunting when carried out with respect for your quarry but i must say COURSING should be reinstated and HARE SHOOTS Banned, a hare has very little chance against a line of guns, quite a few only get legged ect to die slow and painfully over time, shooting is indiscriminate ie killing , wounding healthy animals and not the weaker ones as is usually the case for 90% of dogs out there DAYTIME lol, BAN HARE SHOOTS, REINSTATE DAYTIME COURSING, with landowners permission. So you must be against 'all' types of shooting then.? So in my eyes you are no better than the anti's that we all hate. he miht not like it but whats it to do with you ? some shooters dont like deer/hare coursing like toffs but it dont make em anti does it ??? hes not saying he dont like if you read his post he says it should be BANNED Quote Link to post

So it doesn't matter if its a hare or anything you are firing at there is always a chance that the animal could be wounded and get away. Quote Link to post

redeye jedi 39
Yawn... same shit different day. Control Vs. Sport nearly always seems to end up as Guns Vs. Dogs despite both being good fun and efficient methods of control in their own right. Quote Link to post
patterdale moocher 10
Well its that time of year again, the shooting season is finished and most shoots are letting their ferreteters into the coverts to ferret the rabbits. And now the hare shoots are starting,my brother spends a lot of time beating and picking up thruoghout the shooting season and has now got invites to 4 hare shoots in suffolk the first today the expected bag is about 300 hares this will be followed by a second shoot next week where they expect a further 200 hares after that they are left alone, similar numbers are expected on the other shoots,it always seems a shame to shoot that many hares but i suppose they need controlling.Since the ban several people have been prosecuted in this area for illegal hare coursing and with coursers recieving driving bans and vehicles conviscated its no wonder most courers are wary of slipping dogs in this area. WHATS YOUR VIEW?? its a feckin crime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to post

Dogs despite both being good fun and efficient methods of control in their own right. how can anyone call shooting hares sport, i have seen some really great courses single handed , and you would never dream of slipping a second dog,out of respect to the hare. going out and shooting 200 or 300 hares in a day we wont have to worry about the hunting ban the hare as we know it will be gone for good ATB JOHN Quote Link to post
hound dog1 0
my local shoot shot 279 last sat. crazy!!! Quote Link to post

WHATS YOUR VIEW?? I think this should be encouraged all over the country and well publcicsed if only to show the LACS that they have not saved a single hare by their campaigns to ban the use of dogs which had lower kill rates and a more natural way of weeding out the weaker animals. The majority if shooters I know would not shoot a hare they leave them for the lurchers, greyhounds and beagles. these shoots are about control during the shooting season they dont shoot any ground game, febuary signals the start of the hare shoots and fox drives the keepers and estate owners inviting thiose who helped by beating picking up etc and giving them some sport, most estates will not tolerate lurcher men or coursers on there ground, one it is illegal ,and two why should they?? the shoots are the most effective way of reducing the hare numbers,i personally would rather see 5-6 lads out with the dogs and bag a small number of hares more sporting by far,but you wouldnt get the numbers requared and if the fella owns the land its down to them Quote Link to post
steviebhoy 0
Ok since this thread still seems to be popping up everyday i would like to put a scenario forward to all the lurcher men/ladies against the shooting of the hare for control reasons............Lets say that there was no ban and this land owner who is over run with hares puts up a post on THL offering 20 dog men/ladies to walk his land[over the course of a week] and clean up some of the hares. Now over this week the tally of hares might not be in the 500 area but it could be well into 100 mark. Would this then be classed as ok? If so there seems to be a big 'sour grapes' attitude because 1 sport is banned and another gets to continue. Before i get bombarded i would like to say that coursing a hare is a glorious sight and i for 1 would love to see the ban lifted but come on folks wishing another sport/control was banned is utterly wrong Quote Link to post
Sighthound 49
An unlikely scenario, but yes it would be better because (provided only one, perhaps two dogs were slipped at a time) only the weak and unsound hares would be killed, shooting is indiscriminate. I also would not want to see another mans sport banned I just think it's not 'sporting'. Quote Link to post
luke 2
theres no sport or glory driving a bunch of bewildered animals to a wall of guns Quote Link to post
