Deker 3,478
Right guys, i have a tikka t3 .223 and the scope i have got for it is a MTC viper 6-24-56ir what mounts are best for i want something different than the optilocks and what height will i need for the objective lens to be just off the top of the barrel, many thanks nathan I run Optilock and Sportsmatch. Hated the Optilock, overpriced and an inherent design fault, so looked for an alternative on my second Tikka. Sportsmatch worked great and only about £22-£24 I seem to recall...the big BUT is, you will not fit a 56mm objective scope on then, you will need an additional adaptor, check out http://www.sportsmatch-uk.com/ There are others out there!! IanB 0
I'm using the optilocks, as are a few other members, david, etc, I just bought them with rifle banged the swaro on and forgot about them, they are rock solid, never had any probs so far... they are pretty pricey mind for mounts.. 3jackwhite3 2
i have looked into the additional adaptor and even with the lowest mount and the adaptor the scope will be 30mm high which is still to high to see through the scope without lifting my head off the stock as i fitted the mounts from my mtc on their just to give me an idea even though they are 9-11mm and the scope was about 4-6mm left, they were still high they measured about 20-23mm i think and they were just a bit high but it still had abot 7-8mm before the objective lens touches the barrel(not a varmint barrel) so i could get away with even smaller mounts again and the only sportsmach mounts i could find fitted a 1"tube not a 30mm tube, i have been searching the web since about 5 and its driving me mad. rutland12 0
Leuopold sell a mount specically for tikka/sako rifles. I have a set on my tikka t3 hunter fitted with a zeiss conquest 6x20x50. They cost £30 and come in various sizes and heights. Got mine from Chris Potter in Tunbridge Wells. Give them a call and speak to Steve, he knows all about this set up. Quote Link to post
lxx73 0
Burris XTB mount and Burris Signature rings, inserts so adjustments can be made . Quote Link to post
Mr Adventure 0
Like myself I want my scopes as low as possible. I use a T3 varmint and a Sako Varmint both with Bushnell 4200's with 50mm objectives and have to say the only way I got the scopes as low as possible was using Optilock Rings and bases for both. They are expensive but quality come at a price Measuse the outside diameter of the objective on your scope and get the set from the optilock chart. I find that I can go a size down using optilocks....eg, if I need low rings for my scope acording to the optilock chart you will get away with extra low rings. This way you get your scope as low as possible Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
My solution would be to go to Opticswarehouse, get the Weaver/Picatinny rail for the T3. Then get a set of 30mm medium Leupold PRW rings, should be good to go. Cost £60 or so when done, but mounts are very important so money very well spent. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Il agree with you on the price Deker. They are not cheap compared to some other brands. What is this fault that you mentioned. They seem to fit wellonto my rifle and grip the scope. ? Sorry for going a bit off topic here Just to add that they are around 90 quid for the rings and bases If I remember it right. You have to screw the base to the ring before mounting on the gun, this has to be lined up by eye, unless someone has a technical way of doing it. There is no locating on the joint and it can be easy for many to get this connection twisted, if you do then scope can be damaged or zeroing become difficult/impossible as the scope is not straight..in short a f*****g useless design for any mount, let alone one costing £100. BUT .......mine have stayed true, and I haven't had any problems, I just consider it a flawed design and vastly overpriced!! I have Sportsmatch on my other Tikka, they cost me just over £20 and have been excellent!!!! Just bought a Remington 700..having to start all over again with mounts...why is this all so complicated??? Edited February 13, 2009 by Deker Quote Link to post
