Back Stabbath 1
Do many of you's have allotments? How much do you pay for 'em and what do you think of 'em? I'd love to get an allotment when I go to England, even if I didn't have much time with study, its still worthwhile as they were cheap annually when I looked it up. Don't know if they'd give me one with campus accomodation, but it says 'open to all restidents of..', worth a try anyway. Its unfortunate that we don't have allotments in Ireland, I'd have one straight away! We don't have any sort of common land or anything either. Fcuking Paddys just rob you blind. There's normally pretty long waiting lists for them now it's getting more popular! Best get your name down quick I think! I didn't realise they didn't have allotments in Ireland! lucylocket 0
Cheers ferretgirl! Yeah man, we don't have anything in Ireland don't you know, and the things we do have are 'takinthepiss' expensive! lol You would find allotments in Dublin....allegedly!!! But youre right about "takin the piss expensive" I was minding my own business yesterday, driving back from work in my boyfriends English reg. Jeep, when Customs stopped me,and told me I wasnt entitled to drive the Jeep because I'm an Irish citizen. Its going to cost 800 euros to tax it here but £200 in England. Meanwhile Mr. Custom and his mates are driving around in a large saloon car AND a Landrover Discovery, taxing us to oblivion to make our carbon footprint smaller. I'd like to place my carbon footprint firmly up their a%$£". Rant over
Paid 935
I pay £26 a year for a full plot, about 30m by 15m. Love it, keeps us in veg all year (family of 4) Its only about 500m from my house, which helps a lot, prob spend about 3 hours a week on it, more in spring/early summer. I've just put up a 30m by 20m poly tunnel in the garden, so might let some one else take on half my allotment this year, as theres a big demand now, the waiting list is some thing like 18 people at the moment, and when i took it on 4 years ago, half the plots were empty. FPO 0
around by us there is a MIN 3year wait! bearing in mind that bodmin isnt exactly well off and heaving with authority properties, you would think the council would try and get some more ground sorted! Anyway I think I may have just got a small private plot near me, just got to give the woman a call. Worth taking a look at is the HFW site on facebook they are trying to conect people with land with people who want to grow stuff? Not sure how it is going to work yet, but get your name in ready, can always turn it down if not suitable. BS if you know when and where you are coming over to england try and get your name in now for a plot, there are some places where plots are only a 2 week wait apparently!. Back Stabbath 1
Wow, didn't think about the waiting lists so much, better get my name in! Its not 100% confirmed that I'll be going to England as the college havn't accepted me yet (going for interview in March), but its fairly certain I think. Hopefully that wont make a difference anyway. I'd say I'd have time for it too, I won't be studying all the time, and I don't drink much! I'd like to keep about 4 hens on mine too for eggs and meat. Seriously fair prices for allotments over there! Here every single square inch of land is grabbed immediately, sold, and built on! You would find allotments in Dublin....allegedly!!!But youre right about "takin the piss expensive" I was minding my own business yesterday, driving back from work in my boyfriends English reg. dwalin 0
i have an allotment its cost £26 a year for a full plot. i adore mine and its pure freedom away from the city as mine is out a bit. there is a waiting list though. im thinking of chickens this year
Back Stabbath 1
The one I'd be gettin would be £30 pounds for 300m. Yeah, davidomarr, I'm hopin there would be a few rabbits to take! I'd be so happy if I got one. Chickens would just be a massive bonus! Never had the soil or space to grow a decent amount of anything, despite how much effort I've put into trying, every year, always been measly harvests, or they fail. lucylocket 0
Try and get one with a shed if you can, ours was great for a quick brew if it suddenly rained. The allotment was very overgrown and the shed was leaky but after a few months hard work it was great, broke my heart to leave it when we'd done so much work to it.
