Tyla 3,179
i thought i would get out with the ferrets today, Tyla is finally able to get out after her most recent injury and i have run out of work so now got plenty of time on my hands . My mate came along to give me a hand too. We did a big old bank first, all covered in dead nettles and riddled with holes. Got 8 out of there, 1 in the longnet, 1 dug and the rest purse netted. We then went along a thick old blackthorn hedge and did it section by section, ended up with 14 more, 1 dug and the rest in the purse nets. its so much easier now the dogs are back, due to the nature of the ground and the fact i usually work alone i have them hold rabbits in the nets until i can get to them, without them i find themself running about like a blue arsed fly! i know some people frown on dogs touching nets but i like it that way, they know not to touch set nets but are on hand to grab netted rabbits while i squeeze through the hedge, jump the fence or whatever. Check out Tyla in the pics, she must be the most laid back dog in the world, chilling on my jacket while she waits for the nets to be picked up. it was beautiful weather and we all had a good time. Dropped all the rabbits at the butchers on the way home and ended up with £33 in my pocket too Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
rest of the pics, both dogs got badly stung feet on the evil new nettle growth thats already started, hence the miserable end of day shot! Edited February 11, 2009 by Tyla Quote Link to post
BennyS 1
I like the sound of £33 at the end of it! Not many butchers take em. Looks like a great day was had. Lovely looking lurchers. Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
Thanks for your replies guys There really was some heat in the sun today, it was -2 degrees first thing but but half ten we both had our jackets off! jonny09 - i got £1.50 each gutted but not skinned, round here most butchers take them, just not all the time, what you get for them varies too Hotdog - it looks like i will have plenty of time in the near future so i'd be happy to go out sometime, just text me Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Nice one Tyla! The butchers will be screaming for rabbits soon! Dog has to have a little initiative even if it works against you sometimes, there not gun dogs in the end and thinking for themselves something lurchers do! Quote Link to post
herdwick 52
Nice going Tyla. Should be plenty more rabbits about here. I'll have a look around see if I cant find a bury or two that isn't too wet then you can come again. Quote Link to post

That would be good although we are only a quarter of the way down that hedge line so theres plenty to go at there. Never did get as far as those open buries we were aiming for but they will be there for next time Quote Link to post
