In that case.......

 

The fish: It's a fish. I fish for owt that swims, it'll do. But I'd rather see pics of wild fish than overfed, spawned up fish called 'Mary' or summat.

 

The people: Each to their own. Personally I wouldn't bother bivvying up for 2 days for the odd run, but if that's what people like, then fine.

 

 

Edited to say: I don't 'hate' carp or those that fish for them. I'm just pretty indifferent to it.

I do however like the way serious carpers 'work things out' regarding tackle and baits, and I think that can have an influence on other types of fishing like specimen or match. That's got to be good.

And you've got to admire the committment needed. :D

i think it stems from the more commercial venues like linear etc,theres some cracking fish in there apart from carp but the match/specimen anglers cant get on there due to how big the carp scenes got nowadays. all it takes is a 30 to pop up in some unknown venue then the place is rammed 24/7 with bivvys.
