angoraferret 0
Try lemon juice or bitter apple spray on the back of your hand and let him get ya!! He won't come back for a second go, i promise. Ferretone is just a cod liver oil blend with vitamins we just buy cod liver oil its much cheaper. Quote Link to post
John-B 4
I use olive oil, but just a few drops at a time, if its as good for ferrets as it is for us it wont do any harm Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Be brave, keep handling him and he will come around, you have ten fingers, you only need two to pick him up. Quote Link to post
SwissTony 0
Word of warning with ferretone, it may smell like chocolate, but it certainly doesn't taste like it  Quote Link to post
summat decent 0
I only screwed up once, got a great vampire looking scar on my arm,it was my fault. The laugh of it is my other half keeps meat rabbits,he rears em i neck em when they get right weight. He got bit by a 7kg buck he has on the right wrist, right bloody mess,i would have (unprintable). I got hammered on the left forearm,so when we are in car ferret for left, rabbit for right. Offering a knuckle seems to be safest, they find it harder to get a grip. Good luck Quote Link to post
Cornio 0
If you're right-handed, wave your left hand in front of the ferret so that he's watching it and grab him from behind with your right. Quote Link to post
chalkedup 14
make sure you wash your hands after handling any food too as he might be smelling that and thinking your hands food when you pick him up just give him a stroke and then put him back in the hutch then do it again a few times through the day itl soon get used to it rather than trying to keep hold of him for a while i stroke mine when feeding too they seem more interested in feeding than anything else but im pretty lucky as theyv been well handled before i got them i havnt tried ferretone but ive mixed up some olive oil, salmon oil and cod liver oil my jill loves it, my hob hasnt been tempted to try it though but the jill wasnt interested at first until the first lick but to be honest i only realy let her lick my finger through the mesh on the hutch Quote Link to post

postiepaul 0
offering a knuckle is correct. Holding ferret in your left hand, offer the knuckle of your first finger. If it goes to bite, you push your knuckle to the back of its throat and hold it there till it nearly chokes. It then associates biting with a bad experience i. e. choking, and after one or two goes of being choked it will hopefully giveup the idea. Also , this dont sound nice, but if you spit in the palm of your hand the ferret will lick it and be your friend for life. also blowing into the ferrets nose, like they do with horses, is good too, they got to know your smell. spending time is the thing, you got to handle and handle. postiepaul 0
sorry in my post above I didnt mean knuckle, I meant the first joint of your index finger above the knuckle with the finger bent. works pretty quick with nippy youngsters, but might be a bit harder with adult, although possible if you brave enough to try it. To Tony, I give up on that, my ferret is more faithful than my ex wife ever was. Quote Link to post
s horsfield 7
its only a week now but i can see some improvement already.
