diggin in the snow

Recommended Posts

Out today with Big toe of here'the ground we were working today was way up inthe hills,so plenty of snow about.we arrived at 8 and the veiw was breath taking,We had to hike a mile or so to the earth we were doing today as the roads were impassable,it was hard work for the dogs just getting there as the snow was 6-8 inches deep, when we reached the earth we entered the old russell dog smasher and it was down to bussiness,we got a mark of 1.3 and set to work, the first foot or so was handy, then we hit roots, then stone followed by real compact clay,it was like iron,we broke the graft on the way down and had to finish the dig with a small clearing out spade and a ferreting bar, which slowed things up,it took 2 1/2 hours to dig what should have taken an hour or so,but you have to take it as it comes'there was another incn or 2 of snow fell while we were digging so we had to carry the dogs part of the way back, luckily the dig was under cover
