im in all your boat, after been on my mates and just pullin up and opening the padlock on the gate with the key they gave him, i feel like im been done for, only thing is its my only permission so im in no place to pick and choose. do i use it till i keep knocking and get more or do i not go to stop them all from charging us and make a stand.

 

I'd say, dont be to hastey, go back and tell him, your happy to pay a fiver, but you'll need a permission slip, you can find one to download from this forum, make sure it has his name/address/farm name on it, do a days ferreting one saturday, then on the sunday, take a trip around all the other surrounding farms, rather then just knocking and asking for permission, you can knock and say

sorry to disturb them, but you have permission on mr so and so's land, but a few of the warrens pass over the boundary fence, could you get their permission to cross the boundary, having the permission letter, maybe all you need to gain more land, if they say yes, you can then say, this is my name and number, anytime you want any other areas done free of charge, give me a call, it dont sound pushey that way, if you get the surrounding farms, you can then go back to your first one, and say, thanks very much, but the farm/s next door are giving you permission for free, if he wants the rabbits shifted, Im sure he'll change his mind on charging

thats right stubby we done the same on a farm we have now, bit of convincing we were getting there slowly we dont and never have been charged to go on land even though i know someone who pays £10 atime to go to one farm but has a good day/night there, we knocked thi farmers door we got permission on sonso's land next door can we.....and so on. the words that came out of his mouth was, how do i know your genuine? how do i know you wont steal off me? how do i know when your comeing up? theres answers for everything alotof boys nock and leave the car out of view but we knock and try our best to get the car in view and if granted permission or if the farmer is half and half on it we simply say this is my drivers license this is my number plate this is my mobile number well ring u whenever we come up without fail well park here/there each time here without fail and your welcome to a few rabbits a time for food etc........keep knocking mate if you keep mentioning other farmers names it really do make a big difference

Look at it this way

If you went course fishing you may have to pay for a day ticket or a season ticket, and you have to throw the fish back in the water

At least for your fiver you can take the rabbits home

go for a lmaping seshion with a dog or by your self, see if it's worth taking a ferret and friends there + 2 rabbits sold at like 2.50 your money will pay for it it might be worth paying that ...

cheers for all the advice, not working today so im going up there for a days ferreting and will be getting a permission slip so i can knock a few on the drive home will let u no how it goes.

It's quite common in the dales for lads to get charged, esecially in the south of the area. There is that much competition for land from the lads from yorkshire and lancashire some lads will always be there to pay it, and people to take your place if you don't do the job.

went out like said yesterday 3 rabbits to show for it, didnt get chance to knock any farms like planned due to it been late coming back, enjoyable day will b going back with a friend tho as could of done with the help carrying stuff and better with a few more nets. glad to read you all had good days aswel.
