Terrier man 38
A good strong 3/4 hound 1/4 bull would do you sounder... or even just as good would be 5/8 hound 3/8bull ... will run all night and hack all day if you get the right one... first crosses ar ideal around the hole but wont knock that many foxes on a run but if your driving feilds like some do there fine...Good luck with what ever you get. Garypco 2
ya thinking of 3/4 grey 1/4 bull as i said needs to run foxes by day off cover just i live ireland we can run lurcher on foxes ! a 3/4 bred would be ideal althought there are some 2nd 3rd 4th gen bull bred dogs out there... anything up to about 25" for foxes is ideal as they have the weight to draw... if you want an out an out draw dog then a 1/2 cross is ideal providing the bull is a racey type! Bosun11 537
Your right Sounder there are some decent dogs in the North For the field size you have i'd look for a 1/2 or 5/8ths, not that theirs owt wrong with 3/4's but some of the bigger dogs can take a moment or two longer getting into their stride. I like the first two for the terrier job also Whatever you chose, just ensure both parents are doing either just what you want or excelling your needs and you wont go far wrong. Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
I can say that I have a half bred dog, line bred, that is always out with the terriers, rarely misses bolting fox, but lost odd one in thik cover. He will pull anything, and very well.. good lamp dog also. If the dogs going to be doing lots of work with the terriers, get a half bred dog from parents you are happy with, they have the strength to do it better, faster, and most good ones are well racey enough to bag charlie easy in any field. Bootsha 1,306
Hi Ray Lots of crosses available to you and no doubt will all be mentioned in due course. Have had first crosses, as has been already said, spot on for drawing and if you get the "rangier" build ones then your away fella for charlie boy etc on the bolt or from cover, I now use ( when I can) Bull X Greyhound to a Bull greyhound collie greyhound, got that little bit more sense when needed, a splash more brains but when that switch is flicked to "ON" as game as you'd want. Again, this is just what I use now after trying a few different crosses, having said that, theres something special about a bull cross to a bull cross, if you get the lighter build ones. I hope helps a bit for your choice fella, good luck with it. ATB WAB Quote Link to post
