higgins 75
we live in an age of 'i want it now' technology, the trouble is the technology is faster, more reliable, but the people are not as patient to wait for the milliseconds of improved technology, what will happen when the next technology comes that tells us we have two foxes,a male and female, then when you dig down it's two males,we will never be able to please everyone, Higgins. higgins 75
I've only ever used the Bellman&Flint one but I thought it'd be better than what it turned out to be when I first used it. Still it does the job and I ain't complaining. it does the job but a think the old deben far cheaper and simple to use the bellman and flint for instance one minute it tells you you dog is 0.9 then the next it says 12.9 now how the hell can a terrier move as quick as that under ground a dont think its possible today we were out and a was getting pisst off with the bellman the arrows were all oveer the place a think the box had a mind of its own give me the deben anytime its plain and simple to use have you replaced the batteries,it's possible one set of batteries was weaker, how long have the batteries been in use?Or perhaps it may need re-calibrating? Guest GoneToGround1
give plenty of time for dog to settle, regardless of which system you use they are all using the same technology,B+F,Ortovox it's all the same, the only criteria to rely on is a steady mark either in depth or numbers,if the signal is steady that's the right signal,i don't own a B+F,thinking of purchasing a Barryvox from Bryan and collar from Strong Stuff,i presently use a Deben, nowt wrong with Deben, many digs in the past were successful due to them being available, and at the end of the day ANY system is preferable to none at all, Higgins. you wont be dissapointed with barryvox pulse...........i have 1 only had 1 dig on it but its smack bang on a nicely built box. go for it tell me what you think i like it cant wait to get back out to try it again Quote Link to post
Bryan 1,362
with the B+F or Ortovox systems the numbers can go crazy because the box is taking and up,down, north, south, east and west measurement everytime the numbers change. They can get confused by fast movement. if the dog is flying backwards and forwards or twisting around quickly, the numbers will fluctuate, wildly! with a bit of use and experience you'll know exactly whats happening, wether the dog is just digging and pushing on or is coming under a lot of pressure and needs you to get the shovel moving. if you find yourself coming down to the left or the right of the dog often, then extend your search a bit, you might find that the lowest reading you get, say 1.7 comes up over two spots, if it does dig in the middle of them. burnie69 376
The reason why the box fluctuates from lets say o.9 to 12.5 is nothing to do with low batteries. It's because the signal the collar sends out is not in a circular shape from the collar. It's an eliptical shape (the same shape as a rugby ball) and any slight movement from the dogs head twisting or turning but the dog staying in the same place will give two different readings on the box. If the dog is o.9 lets say and working, any slight movement could give a reading of 12.5 but on the next beep of the box, the box will revert back to o.9. Someone said that they could move the box 12 inches along the ground without the box increasing or decreasing in depth. This is normal because you are on top of the dog and the only way to move that box 10cms (0.1) away from the dog is to lift it up in the air 10cms. Hope this clears up a few things for some people. Ryeuken 7
the numbers do sometimes jump about like that, dont know why it happens tho. the dog is settled and in the one spot but for some reason the numbers jump up high then come back again imeditatly, strange but weve got used to it. also we never go by the arrowsi think same mate Quote Link to post
