RossM 8,121
was up early this morning as was meant to be going for a dig, looked out window and snow was starting. Got dressed and jumped in motor and set off. Got 15mins down bypass and couldnt see in front off me, the snow was thick and fast. Now the snow didnt bother me its the little windy "A" road to to get where i was going as chances were if this snow keeps up they'll close the road and i wouldnt get home. phoned my mate and told him i wouldnt make it today. a bit peeved off i went home and decided i'll take pup a walk up donkey lane get her jumping a bit. Set off and went through 1st field which gives her a 7bar gate to jump and a 4ft fence to get into second field, into second field and i see a dark bit in the snow didnt think it was a rabbit but as i got closer i realised i was wrong. pup was dondering about and hadnt noticed it so i clicked her in and pointed her in its direction she set off up the hill the rabbit started to move towards the tree line and the pup looked like she was going to miss it but about a yard from the cover she struck and picked it up by the back leg and retrieved it live to hand. so i dispatched of the rabbit and praised her the rest of her trip she spent checking out anything that looked out of place in the fields like troughs and an old bit carpet!! But at least shes showing an interest and hunting up. in total this is her 6th rabbit shes took one from cover, dont know how shes had 3 ferreting and an easy couple on the lamp. this is her 1st mixy though. 2 pics taken on mobile phone. How olds the pup mate ? looking good, myxy rabbits are great for bringing young dogs on, especially hunting up in cover, the rabbits can be disorientated and are a bit easier to catch, this encourages the pup to work, then when faced with healthy rabbits they work a bit harder and gain experience. good luck.
