RIOHH 30
Not the best choice for a strater bird mate especially if you want to hunt with it. If you want a bird to hunt with you are better off with a harris hawk or a redtail. If you want an owl then you are better off with somthing like a bengal eagle owl. ATB martin Quote Link to post

Kat 3
If you want to hunt I wouldnt waste your time with an owl. Indian eagle owls aren't especially good at hunting anything worthwhile and the European eagle owl which you'll have heard of taking foxes aren't that straight forward either. They are quite often very slow to get going and to teach them to hunt can be a lengthy process and they can often be downright difficult. I know a guy who has killed with his EEO but I dont believe im wrong in saying his tally for all the seasons he's had the bird is still in the low single figures. Owls arent as cute as they look.. they make good display birds as they're impressive and interesting in flight but thats about it.. Quote Link to post
stoaty1 35
Yes an eagle owl can take quarry but no one has ever found out how to take the quarry off the owl. Well its not quite that bad but owls are not that well mannered when down at hunting weight and on quarry. If you want to hunt then I think you would soon get fed up with an owl. As has been said a Harris or Red Tail would be a far better choice. They will cope with your early errors in weight management and only get better as you do. Quote Link to post

Not saying a beginner can't fly one but they are harder. Also what happens if they get fed up with flying them to the fist. They then have to get a second bird or sell the first. Quote Link to post

mark2007 32
i know what you are saying but a europeon eagle owl is a big bird for a 1st timer in my eyes and very powerful bird if anything went wrong not saying it would but could happen and some thing like a barn owl would be a better bird to start with to learn then work your way up Quote Link to post
