£25 per hour is not bad these days. If you go along say, once a fortnight for a couple of months, you should get a really good grounding in the basics of good gun dog training for £100. These places usually have good facilities, and can put yourself and dog into "working" situations that you would find hard to do alone.

Hi wondering if this gundog training school looks any good to you ?

thinking of getting some lessons

The trainer has just won the cocker FT Championship

Ahh, but that doesn't necessary make him a good trainer of other people - can think of a couple that have won the Retriever championship but they are completely useless at training others.

BUT let me quickly add that I've only heard positive reports about Hamptworth and have heard it recommended by others. I would suggest to book a lesson and give it a try and see how you get on with the trainer.

I can't give an opinion on either place, as they are both well out of my area.

Why not try them both, and see if you prefer one or the other? Me and my wife, and friends, go to three or four different places with the gun dogs.

It depends on what you are teaching them at the time, and what facilities (woodland/ water etc) are available.A well trained gun dog adds enormously to the pleasure of a day out shooting, but the gun dog training, and the social side, can become a hobby on it's own.
