thanks lads

i also got hold of royal mail { after about 2hrs } customer service and yes you can send them via royal mail

but you cant send any pellets. had to tell them what it was best to be honest and get the insurance cover, didn't want this to go pair shaped other wise third party would loose out so at least the amount is covered.

Sorry for my dim reply i thought u meant that you wanted to buy an air rifle but due to the fact its now illegal for the comapany to send one through the post, hence my first reply. As long as its classed as sporting goods and not an obvious air rifle its ok

I'm sorry fellas. I'm going to have to remove posts in this topic while I attempt to decipher the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006.

My current interpretation was that the sale of second hand air rifles, was fine, but I may well be wrong. It may be limited to RFD's (Registered Firearms Dealers).

I'll replace the posts, in this topic, when I have more information.

Fair enough mate but i was told on the bbs that members of the company supplying you with the air rifle can deliver it in person as they are a member from the company and therefore not going through any hands of the Royal Mail. Posting by private sales is totally legal as long as the package is not the one of an air rifle making it obvious they cannot not accept your goods and have no right to question you in any what what is in the box.

I accept that mailing rifles isn't an issue it's the potential legal issues that come from bringing it up on the forum, with regard to what the legal definition of a firearms dealer is.

I'm currently seeking legal advice to who can sell what, as it could have serious repercussions for the forum, with regard to people selling air rifles.

I just don't want anyone to accidentally incriminate themselves, unknowingly, with the amount of police there are trawling the place.

the VCR act only allows delivery via RFD's....but........the royal mail cannot refuse a parcel so are duty bound to deliver it.

all other carriers will refuse if told what the contents are and if not, and, the parcel is lost or damaged will not honour the insurance.

dare i say.....if you go into the gun sales on BBS there is a pinned topic on air guns by post, maybe it could be copied and pinned on here........????

cheers

i think this is causing some misleading here, in my original post what i wanted to know if there is a company that will take an air rifle form my house to yours hyperthetically speaking. but have since found out as stated in another post that i rang royal mail and they had no problem with me sending an air rifle through the post but no pellets. so that's exactly what i did took it to my local post office they weighed it and i paid for it to be sent SIMPLE as that . it went through parcel force 48 !!

regards
