Labs n lurchers -Fair play to you .I started off with a few things to say but you have them all nailed down and better than i could too .Whether you copied and pasted i dont care ,it says what needed to be said '.Keep it tight as long as its right' is as good a motto as any .Out cross to my mind is a term for the use of a dog from another tightly bred line to expand your own gene pool and not to use a dog just because it has the required seasons under its belt .

I agree with you about the outcrossing too, its no good getting you own line going, reducing the variation in your pups only to throw in a outcross unless it is as tightly bred as your own but from a different line/strain.

thanks stig, thats the type of info i was hoping to get. cheers. my 9 months have seen nothing yet apart from a caged rat at 4 months.which they killed

we had our last dig at the week end you still going ? give em a bit of a rag and get em out on your last few digs if your not already .. otherwise you`ve got another 9 mnths or so to go got 2 pups i`m running on gettin started for a mate ready for next yr they`ve been ratting since 5mth and been on a few digs and had a couple of rags thr nearly 8 months couple more weeks ratting then thr off to his for the show season i`ll get em entered for him at around 17 months ..

we finishing up at the end of the month,probably wont get them out for a look just incase id get tempted to try one too early,will just wait till next season.cheers mate

had4 pups breed half sister to half brother had to seperate them at six week2x2 one killed another left with 3 gave me mate one two i kept 2cant leave them out together they kill one another all have bad mouths my opinon on father daughter pups will be ok but breeding from there on no done it no success my pups are patxpat pat x border all pats are inbred

Thats the risk you take when you line breed, the bad mouths must have come from somewhere in their breeding history thats why you need to do as much research as is possible into your dogs including any offspring from those lines. You should do this with any breeding but when line breeding you need to be specially careful or be prepared for the consequences. Having said that, even with all the history there are still 'hidden' genes that can be expressed in the puppies when they are present in double copies.

Dev breed them tight and keep them tight then you will always know what you have.You know what is in your dogs otherwise you would not have them.You dont know what is in someone elses(regardless of what he tells you)Them dogs i posted a few nights ago are as tight as you can go some are brother to sister (done me no harm)So i know exactly what is in them.We went to an outcross a few years ago disaster Put down everone of them at a year and a half waste of f*****g time.There was shit back the other line(we heard this later)Dont mind the EXPERTS telling you about pups born with 4 heads bullshit.If the father and daughter has passed your test(ive seen some of your digs)thats the way to go

Dev, would love to answer you mate with the factual experience we have had over the past 12 yrs of breeding terriers, but I suggest you pose this question to dan hendy who has never bred a litter, but basically says, my information and experience is pish , but on a plus for the guy he does know some real long scientific words.

i started this thread to get some information from men who had done it before, you having a pop at someone else on this thread is childish,useless and a bit disrespectfull to be honest
