Surefire torches

My father in law came back from working in Iraq last weekend and was saying that these might be great for my A.A. S400 as a gun light. At the moment i'm using a little Mag light which is fine but he looked at it and said that the Surefire will p*"s all over it !! Anyone know anything about them please ? Cheers

Your father in law is right, the sure fire's are great torches if a little expensive. Real good beam on them. Used in the military and emergenct services. Plenty on ebay.

Yup they are good, i have one similar a LEDwave z4. Make sure if you go from ebay get a real one not a japanese "certain fire" etc.

The Borealis torch is supposed to be just as bright but a lot more battery efficient.

It's basically a highly uprated Maglight.

get to tesco's and get one of there own brand led torchs. i sh*t you not,the c cell model(£12!) throws a tight,white beam a good 70 yards! i couldn't beleive it when i got one(heard about them on bbs)i get over two lamping sessions out of a set of battery's. good torchs for the money. all metal too.

Just done a load of boring research into torches, and there is a cracking write up in the reviews section on here by Watchmaker the torch God!

 

I found that while Surefire are excellent, they suffer badly from short battery life, expensive battery replacement, and quite expensive to buy the top end ones to start with.

 

Then I found these:

 

LED Lenser P7

 

I shit you not mate, these are the absolute bollocks!!!!

 

And they are "only" £50, they take normal AAA sized cells, there is a model that takes AA size, but that's not easily available.

 

This torch is good enough to run rabbits on a decent sized field with my dog, I'd say it had a better beam than a Clulite.

Have read about those too, you must have been lucky and got one of the first batch, they've changed the LED's in them now I hear, no longer the better quality Cree emitters .........

i use the led lenser sure fire headlamps a brilliant peice of kit... i use it for fishing secondary light for alamping etc id be lost without mine!!!

put in a search on fleabay for CREE led.... theres 3/4 diferent makes on there, all pritty much the same, and yes it'll waz all over the mag lite on half power lol.

 

i've just got the LED lenser H7R, i've onlt had a quick recky bur its good at 140 luminums.. dimable focusable... no where near as good a light as my fenix TK10 at 60 or 200 luminums (two setting).. that babey does light to the 200 meter mark on max.

 

one thing to watch out for though, the multi click multi settings.. try this at home kids, one click 5 luminums (lights the end of the torch and alets everything) two clicks 35 luminums for 6 weeks burn time...three clicks for 57 luminums ,, ahh now yu can see everythings ran off..... 4 clicks for 78 luminums..5 clicks... then wahoooo 5 million luminums on the max settings lol.... an hour too late lol...

 

most the cree stuff on fleabay is cr123 batteries..get some rechargeables off there..

 

 

if its a tail end button and a simple on off. it's a peace of piss to rig a presure switch in there.... theres a screw in 'cap' inside, undo it, remove the switch mecanism in tact... do what ever..

The one I use is the "Ultrafire" from Fleebay just over £20 and it comes with a charger and 2 batteries and its said you can see the light from it at over a mile away! All i know is no one can look into it

and the heat it produces will keep a family warm for a week! lol

Cheers for the replies peep's, Pitindall i also have a ' Tesco ' special imitation mag light and it's defo served me well, good battery life and nice beam but as the father inlaw said about these surefires i thought i'd see what you guy's thought before i bought one. Next stop fleebay for some looking, wish me luck
