wag 13
we ll , i went out lamping last night again with my cousin on some new ground that i have just got round to lamping after having it for just over a year now, when SOUNDER and SS came over a couple of weeks ago, we went bunny bashing and then lamped a bit of this land on our way back home and SOUNDER shot a fox after seeing 4 in about 300 yards . i knew, i had got the permission to shoot it last year but never got round to it but when we saw 4 the other week it set alarm bells ringing well last night , i finally got over there for a shine and was not disappointed. we met the farm manager so he could drive round with us to show us the ground and where we could shoot . we set off from the farm and just pulled out the yard and there was a fox on the wheat field in front of us but it was not a safe shot because it was at the top hill... with the local village behind it, so we left that one... we then moved down to the first part of the farm where the shoot release pen was ,had a shine round there and a call but nothing showed its self , we then moved on to what they call the river drive . we drove on top of the bank and lamped out to the right and picked a fox up he was working his way to the river bank so we switched off the truck and lamp and i got on the bonnet of the truck ready, we switched the lamp back on and the fox was only 150yards , i put the cross hairs on his chest and pulled the trigger down he fell . we didn't pick it up because he was over the other side of the river , we then drove around for abit seeing nothing . then the farm manager said lets drive over to the grass fields so off we went , we had nearly got there when we went past where, myself SS , SOUNDER ,and CHRIS saw the 4 foxes a couple of weeks ago and there they were 3 of them on the same field of setaside . we pulled into the field where they were , i got out again on the bonnet of the truck , we switched the lamp on and there was only 2 the other one had gone they were well back and not moving, we tried calling with the U caller but they were not moving , i got back into the truck and we drove up the field towards them, we got about 200 yards of where we saw them , i got out on the bonnet ready , we gave it a couple of minutes then switched the lamp on but they had moved out to the right of us . right in line with a caravan park no chance of a shot at them . we tried calling again but they were on there toes and headed off towards the caravan park , we then went down to the grass fields driving along the side of a fen drain on the left with the wind coming from the right where the grass fields were , we had got about 300 yards down and picked up a fox in the second field over , we pulled up , i got out on the bonnet ready , we put the lamp on and he was still there on went the U caller and the fox came like a rocket les kept it just on the out side of the beam it was coming like a greyhound across the field , it got to about 150 yards and les gave it the full beam but it was not stopping , i shouted ahh but no it was still coming . it had no intentions of stopping, it was getting real close, so i put the cross hairs on the bottom of his chest while he was running and pulled the trigger bang he rolled over 2 times before it stopped , i could not help but laugh, we paced it out and the grand old distance of 65 yards . when we all got back in the truck and set off having a lamp round for another fox , we all had a good laugh about what had happpened any way we drove round for a bit longer with only seeing a couple of brocks out and loads of rabbits but no foxes and callled it a night a 11.30 pm so thats another 2 for the 243 tally now a couple of pics of the one we picked Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
You're knocking a good few of them now bud The right bullet/gun combination builds confidence more than anything else, I bet you wouldn't have tried a 300+ yard shot with the Remmy ammo. That Fox looks like a experienced old bugger Good Shooting and good readin' SS Quote Link to post
