dickyboy 1
i'd say most people on here are right..........try it with a ram or ewe might stop it, then ask someone with sheep if they mind you testing your dog on their flock(where it won't do much damage ie no prgnant ewes/lambs) but beprepared to foot the bill if it all goes tits up, with a collar on if it goes after them again zap em give that a couple of goes if it won't stop chasing then its time for the lead!!! now which farmer in the right mind is going too let you put a sheep killer in with sheep you lot are funny as fcuk take the dog up to the farmer were the dog killed on and ask him what you should do with it .. well whatr you do is make friends with someone, muzzle the dog etc take every precaution.....but like i said be prepared to foot the bill if it goes tits up well said midnight runner!!! but what would you do if you can't get it out of them?? some dogs do have a screw loose! Guest Geordie
End of the day its the lads dog, only he can make the final decision. If hes prepared to keep the dog and run it wheres theres no chance of it getting at sheep then thats his decision. On the other hand if he decides to keep it and not run it again, just keep it as a pet in other words, then again thats his decision. All this craic is just peoples personal opinions. His circumstances are mebbes different to others,he may have the room to keep a non working dog and if hes happy to do so then good for him. Obviously no body wants a dog attacking and killing sheep, its bad for the owner, the dog,and the farmer,it also gets the rest of the doggin lads a bad rep. But.....................at the end of the day hes come on here askin for advice, and hes had some good advice and some not so good advice, now its up to him to decide. If, as has been said, he is a good lad,im sure he will make the right choice after trying what he feels is the right thng to do. Guest miner
i am a farmer as well as keen worker of dogs and if any lurcher of mine went for any ewe or tup its the old 4.10 cures the dog every time. sorry but cant afford to lose money, dogs spend hours around the stock but had it happen twice. colliejohn 840
i wont be shooting the dog, only bad dog men and fools do that, its the easy way out,no dog deserves that.the bitch was killing hares from the first time she went out,im hopeing she is gonna be a decent animal. thanks for all the positive advice tho lads,i will keep trying,i dont give up on dogs untill im out of ideas. my dogs are with me to stay, not to be sold or swopped,or shot at random. try walking through the sheep, with the dog on a slip,if the dog pulls check it,keep this practice going till you can walk through the sheep with out the dog even blinking a eye ,then hopefully it should be ok to run free amongst them.if doesnt work try the electric collar.best of luck .regards collie john.
