HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY TRIED OR SEEN IT DONE WHERE YOU STICK THE DOG IN WITH A RAM ETC.

I READ ABOUT IT ONCE IN A PLUMMER BOOK, AND DOZENS OF FOLK HAVE SUGGESTED IT OVER THE YEARS BUT NEITHER HAVE DONE IT.

If I put you in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson and let him beat you to a pulp would you get back in the ring again?

similar to the electric collar idea, (sheep pain pain sheep) its quicker tho because the dog knows where the pain is coming from. it works 99.9% of the time and if its the .1% time for the vet.

have punished two dogs at the same time like this, they were pets not working dogs but I dont think it would make any difference tho. neither of them look in a sheeps direction now.

but you only want to make the dog wary of sheep you dont want to break them.

My missis was brought up on a farm. Her folks collie nailed one of their chickens on one occasion, so the mother-in-law tied it round the dogs neck for a week. The dog never looked at a chicken again!

I believe that the ram idea would work well. Other than that use the leccy collar.

Brock-Take no notice of the hard men on here .They probably cant train a dog to any standard .Car ,slip ,kennel merchants.

its not my running dog chaseing sheep is it ,so what does that tell you  if i was out and had my gun with me and one of my dogs chased a sheep round the field i would shoot it dead on the spot ,that farmer has his money tied up in them sheep ,fancey haveing a field full of pregent sheep your daft dog runs them for five minits they can abort the young they are carrying ,the mans out of pocket big stye plus what he will have to pay the vet ..bad dog ,dont do it again you tell it ..:laugh: give it a chance it will do it again ..ether keep it away from sheep or feed it some lead ..its doing us dog lads no good ,it hard enough as it is getting the rights to go on land with dogs and theses type of dogs are doing dog owners no favors ,it one reason the law have given the land owner the power to shoot dogs,as even the law know they will do it again.. .. 3 or 4 dogs running around will run as a pack and one runs in for the kill 9 times out of ten the rest will follow and join in ,so if you have one dog you dont trust dont let it off the lead or dont take it out with the others and teach them bad ways..

keep up the training but maybe you should muzzle the offender till you have it back on track. its only happend twice so you should be able to turn it around good luck

this one makes me laff, its only done it the twice so that ok then ..:laugh: if you had shoot the fecking thing it would of only done it the once :laugh: it may learn after the 4th or 5th time how to kill the sheep a lot faster too.. :D some thick feckers on here i tell thee

My bitch chased a sheep once and never did it again! She wont even look at a sheep now! I think that chasing can be sorted but if the dog pulls one down or kills one i think it would be hard to stop it happening again!

It's simple THE LAW SAYS ALL DOGS SHOULD BE KEPT ON A LEAD IN FEILDS WITH LIVE STOCK IN THEM.

Give the dog another chance? if it's killed once maybe but not twice it WILL kill again.that's the way it goes with running dogs it's a gamble.

i'd say most people on here are right..........try it with a ram or ewe might stop it, then ask someone with sheep if they mind you testing your dog on their flock(where it won't do much damage ie no prgnant ewes/lambs) but beprepared to foot the bill if it all goes tits up, with a collar on if it goes after them again zap em give that a couple of goes if it won't stop chasing then its time for the lead!!!

Brock-Take no notice of the hard men on here .They probably cant train a dog to any standard .Car ,slip ,kennel merchants. The fact that your dog may have seen a deer is no excuse for worrying either.Dogs chase sheep because they are slow ,easy and noisy.A dog of any sort easily distinguishes between what its allowed to hunt and what its not. These lessons need reinforcing sometimes ,especially as in your case ,the dog was lead astray by another untrained dog .It happens . The pack urge is still strong in all our breeds. :good:

In the use of the collar mate ,no matter which type -You need to zap the dog as it attacks the sheep and not while its running to it .The dog SHOULD run around looking for the source of the pain .Call the dog and make a lot of fuss, walking in the opposite direction to the sheep.Sheep/ pain is the objective .Repeat if necessary, but not in the same session.Good luck.

Gotta agree the electric collar is the best option. But zapping the dog AS it attacks the sheep may cause more problems depending on how strong the dog is (mentally), the dog may think the pain is caused by the sheep and go up a gear. I would use the collar on the recall around livestock(without other dogs present), but as people have said who will be happy having a stock killer trained around there livestock.
