victor 10
fair play. but usualy we dig to the terrier and get to the rount of the fox, it cant get any far back, so we set the net ovet the hole weve dug them jump behind him or drive a stake into the ground behind, thay always jump. chrissy32 13
there is a BIG difference if the quarry is educated or not. I've dug to dogs plenty of times with just the one hole, but also had to sink two holes a few times to get the game, sometimes it's the dog to blame for letting the game past at the crucial moment but IMO if the game has been dug before or it has seen off a few dogs then if it wants to be past it will...as long as the dog sticks to its guns then thats all you can ask JMHO... every earth and every situation is different, i have manys a time dug to a hard dog holding its game mid tube so when we broke the dog off the stuff pushes on up the tube, hence weve had to drop the dog and dig again in a different spot. as someone else already stated educated game that doesnt want to be dug will sometimes take a 2nd or 3rd hole before the job is done, especially if there is 2 or 3 in the pot all pushing at the dog and wanting out. as long as the dogs stays and keeps the pressure on is all that counts IMO I've read a lot on here about GOOD dogs and dogs thatare 100% at their job. How many of you have dogs that you only have to dig 1 hole to free them? it depends whats to ground and also how much experiance your dog has and depends on the ground your diggin on and if your terrier is hard or if its sensible and the depth of the set aswell so thares alot of things you have to think of before you say you have a good terrier where your quarry is educated you could drop the best terrier in the world in does,nt mean your getting him in one hole Quote Link to post

How many of you have dogs that you only have to dig 1 hole to free them? Any one who says they have never had to drop a second hole,is either a liar or hasnt been in the game very long, however if it happens on a regular occurance to the same dog, then there's a problem. The best of dogs, even while glued up can still get dragged about a bit, especialylike was said earlier if it happens to be mid tube. For me a 100% dog is a dog that 'FINDS AND STAYS TILL DUG,simple as Quote Link to post

Waz 4,266
Bit of a paragon; digging one hole to a terrier. Heres a bitch of mine doing her best to be a paragon. Edited February 5, 2009 by GD Waz Quote Link to post
Waz 4,266
Heres a bitch of mine doing her best to be a paragon. What is it about the bitch that makes do you say this ? As so far she has mostly had her quarry where it isnt going nowhere, hence digging 1 hole and doing her best to be a paragon. Quote Link to post
Waz 4,266
As so far she has mostly had her quarry where it isnt going nowhere, hence digging 1 hole and doing her best to be a paragon. PARAGON, ideal model of perfection ,one of a kind ,one having no equal. Well yeh it does mean that aswell, but I was using it in this context: Paragon is a word that means ideal,. As in digging 1 hole to a terrier is 'ideal' and the bitch above is doing her best to do her part of the job. Quote Link to post
Guest whitser
there's no such thing as a one hole dog, imo. there might be dogs that up til now are one hole dogs but if they are worked hard the day will come when another hole's needed. tbh i've dug 3 holes before. in some places no matter how hard or good a dog is he's not stopping the quarry moving.
