Rimfires- Ruger or Anschutz?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm looking to get a .17 HMR rimfire- I've narrowed it down to a ruger, or an anschutz 1517- which would you guys recommend?

High capacity on the rugers-

simplicity and possibly higher engineering on the anschutz...

revies for both are here--

Ruger

Anschutz

Cheers!

PS- no suggestions on the CZ rifles please - they're great value for money, but not what i'm looking for.

I got the Savage stainless/laminated/thumbhole jobby. Superb gun/stock and only issue is crappy mag release and edgey trigger guard. Latter 2 easily polished out.

Take a look at the review on shooting times, I'm sure they said it was the most accurate rimfire they'd tested. "acutrigger" works very nicely

My .22 is the ruger 77/22 lam/stainless so I'm biased in it's favour anyway. ;)

Cheers for the comment, I had a look at the savage and the marlin, I just don't like how far forward their magazines are, to me they just don't exude quality... :(

Hi Folks.

I am biased because I have the Ruger alweather.

From memory I think I paid extra £60 for threading and proofing.

£40 extra for a trigger job which is essential.

In hindsight I probably should have had the barrel shortened as it is a bit long at 24".

Fantastic rifle, great fun,but expensive to feed.

Bryan.

Phew! Anschutz it is then!

They look like great rifles- I had a look at a .22 version today in the gunshop (I was just driving past ;) )and it just seemed solid. The bolt was really secure and nothing rattled at all! Just need to get those forms filled out! :D

another quickie.. how much should I expect to pay  - the price tag in the shop was for £650

Don't decide based on recomendations here. Use those to form a short list and make your own decision.

no, but i wanted other people opinions on the subject, 'cause having very little experience on rimfires, i thought this might be the first port of call... :hmm:

There is nothing wrong with the Ruger, just not a gun for me at all, its based on the old Mauser action of about 100 years ago and the Ruger has hardly changed in the last 30 years, there is nothing necessarily wrong with this and the result is a good solid gun.

Anschutz :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: from the first time I ever held one nearly 40 years ago!!

BUT.... CZ does me very nicely for what I want these days!!

You should get a 1517 non thumbhole for about £500 a bit more if it is threaded, these are the best because if you get it done after you have brought it you have to get it proofed before you can sell it on ( another £100 )

I have used the Ruger 77/17 many, many times in the past and I do like the neatness and capacity of the magazines.

The trigger needed to be done on this, it felt like trying to crush a cube of ice. An accurate little weapon all the same, once you got used to the trigger.

I've never shot an Annie in .17 only in .22, but I would pick them out of the two any day.

They just seem more "thoroughbred" than the Ruger.

Have you shot either of them yet?
