Best Lamp?

Recommended Posts

I used a cluson lamp for years with no hassle, and then I lent my mates sl170 when mine was broke.I was so impressed with the beam I bought a sl170 straight away and have been using this all this season. This is just my opinion but the cluson for me was the more reliable lamp, this sl170 is always snapping the power leads (inside of the handle), and when using the red filter it is to noisy to remove and end up spooking the quarry.I even cut one of the lugs off the red filter to try and quiten it down when using it but I still seem to spook the quarry.I have heard the Blazer lamp which is a cluson with a 100 watt bulb fitted like the sl170 is a good unit and has a better beam than the normal cluson unit, and also has the quiet flip up filter set up.I might try one of these but as always you use what you get the results with :good:

Sean,

Sadly we aren't going to Ireland this year due to trying to cut down on show costs.

We will be doing Scone Palace in Scotland though and lots of the Irish lads do that one. Or perhaps you can get to the Midland? :)

Yes, the CLA is generally a bit dear, especially with such a massive choice of stands! We will be there (don't know the stand number yet) but its a hell of a way from Ireland this year mate!! :icon_eek:

Off topic i know but whats that new fox chip like for the caller ?

Ive got the new chip chilli and ive had foxes romping in with it.My only gripe with it is that you have numbers on the chip 1 to 10 but it doesnt tell you what calls they are, ie if there mating calls, cub calls or distress calls. All it says on the chip is

1 fox 2

2 fox 4

3 fox 0

4 fox 4-2

5 fox 1a

6 fox 1

7 rabbit1

8 rabbit 2

9 hare

10 carrion crow

Obviously the last four calls tell you what they are but the others its just guess work.If you were told what the calls were it would help you decide which calls to use for certain times of the year :good:

Mick/Chilli,

Apologies for the labelling of the new fox chip. We had it produced in Italy and I don't speak any Italian. The Italian guy don't speak any English. He has never been lamping either. Plus the fact all 'conversations' were done over the phone (almost impossibe) or via email ("my friend, I do for you leeetle baby foxy, he make tiny squeaky sound, yes?")...and so it went on for three months. By the time the chips were finished I was just about pissed off with them to be honest!! :realmad:

So far its been very very popular, but to tell the truth, half the time I'm not sure myself what call I've got playing! That said, I can say truthfully that we have given the local foxes a serious tw@tting over the last month with the new chip. :D:D

Lightforce 240 Blitz every time for me.

Spot on for back of the van, and good for rabbits aswell. Some may think the beam is too long for bunnies, but you never know how far away they will run from you.

Plus you can easily just lift the lamp a bit higher and point it downwards. it works for me, i remember foxes & hares in the beam of a 170 some years ago.

or even better if you can get one a COLEMAN 800,000cp they are the muts nuts

is the beam thin on the 240 blitz
