Ginette 0
Hi all, Thought I'd share my good news. About a month ago I bought a 6mth old jill as I wanted another to complement my other two who are brother and sister. The guy selling her wouldn't handle her and neither would his son. She and her mother were bought for the son to work but he got scared after a few nips and mum was packed off to Ellon rescue. Long story short she handles well now, just tenses for the first sec when picked up but bossies in fine. Got her done and today her stitches came out no prob. Big bloody relief for me because the vets up here are cr*p. Here is a pic. Hope you like. This is my 'hospital' cage, kept in the spare bedroom when in use. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
She looks like a small panda. Quote Link to post

The one 8,481
Its a shame folk passing on ferrets when a bit of handling would have cured her well at least its your gain Quote Link to post
johninsticks 0
what method did you use to bring her round so quickly? she must have been pretty bad with no handling at all! Quote Link to post
Ginette 0
The guy I got her from got her second hand. He said she was okay to begin with but got nippy so the boy was put off. She wasn't handled for a few months anyway and they wouldn't go near. My method, the same as my dog, bribery. She came near, she got a treat, she stayed up until I was ready to put her down, she got a treat. Personally I think it was alot to do with her, maybe she was always friendly just handled badly a few times. My other jill Branna probably helped though, through example. The worst was getting her past the nesting box. If I got too near too soon she'd bolt back in. Once Branna got her out and relaxed I'd grab her. She got me a few times though, I'm sure she hit bone once. She's still a bit rough with me when playing and still a bit wary mind but she'll come. As for looking like a panda, I never saw it before but I do now. Oh and her name is Caera which means 'sharp, spear-like'. Quote Link to post
Ginette 0
Oh and sorry Nym I almost forgot. She was £55 to be spayed. I've been quoted £45 to get my hob neutered or £ to get him vasectomized. I'm spaying all round. Theres no shortage of kits up here and its a surer thing when the vets are next to useless. JordKil 0
She's a good looking wee furret. What vet did you go to? There's one actually in the centre of Aberdeen who's really good(she looked after my reptiles etc.) Heidi's her name I think. Also there's a rescue in ellon ???? I never knew that..... learn something new everyday I guess... lol Good luck with her Atb Jordan Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Good one ginette for looking after the welfare of them, you've picked some good names too Quote Link to post
Ginette 0
I use Fairview at New Deer. The one in Fraserburgh killed the last jill I tried to get spayed by injecting her with anaesthetic (like a cat they said). This vet gassed her and made a lovely job, very little sign of discomfort. I've heard some funny things about the rescue in Ellon. It also boards and last year he 'lost' someones ferrets while they were on holiday. I've also seen him advertise wanting ferrets. But what you hear can seem bad/strange when its secondhand. I've had no dealings with him so far, so can't say either way. Quote Link to post
